<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 7 der Zeichnung zeigt eine solche Batterie.

Dry element, in particular Leclanché element
The invention relates to a drying element, in particular a Leclanche element, and its production.
It is known that the dry elements essentially consist of the positive carbon electrode, the depolarization mass, the electrolyte and the negative electrode, the zinc pole.
The elements are produced almost exclusively by pressing the depolarization compound around a carbon pin with a brass cap and surrounding it with a fabric cover. The doll made in this way is then placed in a somewhat larger volume zinc cup, the free space is filled with electrolyte, the element is covered with a disk and it is sealed with a potting compound. The elements produced in this way are then combined into groups, depending on the intended use, connected to one another by soldering and finally provided with a shell surrounding the elements. The production of the elements is very cumbersome.
There are many items required for this, which must be cut separately, and extensive assembly work is also required. It has already been proposed to reverse the structure of the elements, i.e. to place the positive pole and the depolarization mass on the outside and to give the electrolyte on the inside and to attach the zinc pole. Such positive electrodes and depolarization bodies are now produced in such a way that a moist mass consisting of manganese dioxide, graphite and a liquid electrolyte is first produced, this is pressed into a cover made of insulating, impregnated paper and the element is closed by means of a cover.
Even if the construction of the elements is reversed compared to the known, generally used production method, where zinc cups are used, substantial material savings are achieved, the known embodiment of these elements has not proven itself in practice because the shape is cup-shaped, which makes production difficult and The lack of density of the paper envelope results in the electrolyte drying out quickly in a short time, which leads to the element being de-energized.
According to the invention, the element is produced in the form of a tub. The element that has the positive electrode and depolarization mass on the outside and the negative electrode on the inside is now carried out according to the invention as follows:
The depolarization mass, which is also the positive pole, is pressed into a trough.
After pressing, it is inserted into a separately produced insulating cover made of a water-repellent synthetic material, or the depolarization material is filled into the separately produced press cover, which has the final tub shape, and pressed with a press ram. The ram, which acts like a wedge, simultaneously creates the cavity for the electrolyte and the zinc pole in the press body. Due to the external arrangement of the electrode and depolarization mass as well as the gain in space by eliminating the zinc cup, carbon pencil, organizer, thread and insulating parts, it is possible to accommodate more depolarization mass, which results in a longer burning time of the element.
This arrangement has the advantage that it is not possible for the outer wall of the element to be destroyed by the electrolyte, which prevents the elements from becoming wet and the battery housing from being destroyed.
The current can be diverted in a known manner through a carbon plate pressed in at the same time. For the carbon platelets to be pressed in, a recess is provided on the bottom of the press casing in the disk axis. One can also, as is known, derive the current through a plastic mass, which consists, for example, of pressed carbon or graphite, with a water-repellent substance, e.g. B. paraffin, mountain wax and. Like., is attached. According to the invention, the plastic mass is used here as a current collector or as a switching contact. According to the invention, the zinc pole is pressed into the disk axis during the manufacture of the tightly closing cover plate, which is also made of synthetic material.
This is done in such a way that a part
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the zinc pole protrudes above the cover plate and is designed as a sliding contact for power consumption. The assembly of the elements takes place in a simple manner in that the end plate with the zinc pole is forced into the press casing in the press body after the finished electrolyte has been filled. The element can also be designed as a bearing element.
The inventive arrangement of the electrodes in the disk axis in the base and cover makes it possible to assemble normal batteries, anode batteries and batteries for special purposes with the desired volts and amperages without soldering, simply by stacking the elements. This construction of the element also gives the possibility to easily replace used elements.
It is known that there are batteries where the pocket elements are replaceable; However, this is only made possible by adding various small components to the finished zinc element or by specially manufactured housings.
In the figures, an element according to the invention and its structure is shown in one embodiment. Fig. 1 shows the press body in section, while Fig. 2 shows the view from above. The depolarization body a contains the pressed-in contact plate made of graphite and paraffin and the recesses c. Fig. 3 shows the sheath d in section, which has an opening e for receiving the contact plate b. 4 shows the insulation body in plan view; it has a recess h for receiving a contact strip through which several elements are assembled to form a battery. FIG. 5 shows the cover plate with the pressed-in zinc pole g in a side view and FIG. 6 shows the assembled element in section. By simply placing three such elements on top of each other, z. B. a flashlight battery.
Fig. 7 of the drawing shows such a battery. The feed line to the lower pole takes place with the help of a contact strip k (Fig. 7 and 8), which is stripped from the housing by an insulating base plate i and passed up through slots in the insulating sleeve of the individual elements. The elements arranged one above the other can be used for any flashlight case. The contact strip k is secured against touching the metal sleeve by the recesses h. The finished individual element consists of three individual parts, each of which can be mass-produced in a rational manner. The tolerances can be kept in such a way that easy assembly is possible.
