<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to an internal combustion engine with internal combustion and liquid cooling, with a pump which promotes the cooling liquid in the engine cooling circuit, with a liquid cooler for cooling the cooling liquid and with an exhaust gas cooler integrated into the engine cooling circuit for cooling recirculated exhaust gas.
Such an internal combustion engine is known from EP 0 080 327 A2. Exhaust gas recirculation is used to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from internal combustion engines.
In both diesel and gasoline engines, a particularly low NOX emission can be achieved if the exhaust gas stream of the recirculated exhaust gas is cooled, the recirculated exhaust gas stream also being able to be pre-cleaned by means of a filter or an oxidation catalytic converter.
If the exhaust gas cooler is integrated into the engine cooling circuit, this has the desired side effect that the coolant and thus the internal combustion engine can be brought to operating temperature more quickly during the warm-up phase.
The object of the invention is to further shorten the warm-up phase compared to the arrangement described.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that, in addition to the exhaust gas cooler, an oil cooler for cooling the engine oil is integrated in the engine cooling circuit, the oil cooler preferably being arranged downstream of the exhaust gas cooler. By integrating the oil cooler into the circuit, not only the coolant but also the lubricating oil of the internal combustion engine is brought to operating temperature more quickly, which means that the warm-up phase can be shortened significantly. The accelerated heating of cooling medium and lubricating oil contributes significantly to the improvement in consumption in city driving. By reaching warm-up mode significantly faster, the exhaust gas emissions, mainly of nitrogen oxide and particles, but also the warm-up combustion noise can be significantly reduced.
It is preferably provided that the exhaust gas cooler and / or the oil cooler in the engine cooling circuit is arranged or switchable in terms of flow parallel to the liquid cooler. The coolant flow can either exhaust and

Oil cooler or the liquid cooler supplied or divided accordingly.
In order to improve the cooling of the exhaust gas and the lubricating oil in the high-load range, an advantageous embodiment variant provides that the liquid cooler can be connected upstream or upstream of the exhaust gas cooler and / or the oil cooler. On the one hand, this makes it possible to shorten the warm-up phase significantly and, on the other hand, to ensure adequate cooling in high-load operation with relatively small coolers.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment variant, it is provided that the exhaust gas cooler and / or the oil cooler in the engine cooling circuit are arranged in terms of flow parallel to the engine or can be switched. Downstream of the pump, the coolant flow is divided into two branches - on the one hand to the engine and on the other hand to the exhaust gas cooler and oil cooler. The two partial mass flows enable faster heating in the warm-up phase.
It is also possible to arrange or switch exhaust gas coolers and / or oil coolers in the engine cooling system in flow with the engine, preferably directly upstream of the engine. The coolant emerging from the exhaust gas cooler and / or the oil cooler thereby gets directly into the engine, which also enables rapid heating. A combination of parallel and series connection can also be established by means of suitable switching valves upstream of the upstream cooler - for example the exhaust gas cooler - and after the downstream cooler - for example the oil cooler - and suitable connecting lines between the downstream valve and the pump or the coolant inlet into the engine respectively.
The optional switchover option enables a high degree of flexibility and adaptation to the respective operating requirements.
In order to always achieve an optimal temperature of the cooling liquid and / or the lubricating oil and / or the recirculated exhaust gas both in the part-load range and in the high-load range, bypass lines are provided in a particularly preferred embodiment variant for bypassing the liquid cooler and / or the exhaust gas cooler and / or the oil cooler .
The invention is illustrated by the following schematic figures. 1 to 4 show possible

leadership variants of the invention, functionally identical parts are provided with the same reference numerals.
1 shows an internal combustion engine 1, in the cooling circuit 2 of which a pump 3 for conveying the coolant is arranged. A liquid cooler 4 is integrated in the cooling circuit 2 for cooling the cooling liquid. An exhaust gas cooler 5 and an oil cooler 6 are provided parallel to the liquid cooler 4, the oil cooler 6 being arranged downstream of the exhaust gas cooler 5. The exhaust gas recirculation line to and from the exhaust gas cooler 5 is designated by the reference numerals 5a and 5b, 5c indicating the exhaust line leading to the outside. 6a and 6b symbolize the oil lines between internal combustion engine 1 and oil cooler 6. With the three-way or mixing valve, for example a thermostatic valve, either the liquid cooler 4 or a bypass line 7a can be activated.
2 and 3 show further embodiment variants of the invention, in which the temperature of the recirculated exhaust gas, the lubricating oil and the coolant can be controlled in very wide ranges and adapted to the respective operating conditions. In contrast to FIGS. 1 and 2, in FIG. 3 the coolant flow after the pump 3 is divided into flows to the engine 1 and to the radiators 5 and 6.
Both in the arrangement in FIG. 2 and in FIG. 3, exhaust gas cooler 5 and oil cooler 6 can be connected in series to the liquid cooler 4 and the engine 1 by actuating the control valves 8d and 8e, as a result of which the coolant flow through the individual coolers 4.5, and 6 is increased. In addition to the liquid cooler 4, the exhaust gas cooler 5 or the oil cooler 6 can also be bypassed via three-way or mixing valves 8b and 8c and the bypass lines 7b and 7c, for example as thermostatic valves, if no heat is to be given off to the coolant. The two coolers 5 and 6 can be connected upstream of the engine 1 by activating the line 9 via the changeover valves 8e and 8d.
FIG. 4 shows an embodiment variant of the invention that is simpler than that of FIG. 3, in which exhaust gas cooler 5 and oil cooler 6 are arranged in series in the coolant flow between pump 3 and engine 1. The liquid cooler 4, which can be bypassed through the bypass line 7a, is arranged immediately after the engine 1.
If necessary, the coolers 5 and 6 can also be

Tile 8b and 8c are bypassed via the bypass lines 7b and 7c.
