Method and device for the production of collector plates.
It is already known to produce accumulator plates by pouring a metal alloy that can be converted into active mass into the fields of a grid, the alloy having a melting point which is only slightly above or more or less below that of the grid material. In order to avoid melting or deformation of the grid bars, it has been proposed here to provide the grid with a protective layer to be removed before or during manufacture of the accumulator plate. In the production of accumulator plates in the painting process are also u. a. Grids have been used in which protrude into the individual fields ray-like projections.
In contrast, the invention consists in that the molten material can be converted into active material
Metal alloy is introduced in several partial flows essentially perpendicular to the grid surface directly into a mold containing the grid, in which each grid cell or group of cells represents an independent partial mold formed by the grid bars and the mold plates with its own sprue.
The metal alloy is poured into the mold and the grid fields are carried out in a manner known per se
Way with completion by neutral (inert) gas, which previously passes through the mold.
The melting crucible holding the alloy is set in a rotating motion and the mold attached to the crucible and firmly connected to it is gradually filled in accordance with the crucible movements, whereupon the fully cast collector plates are removed after each casting process by opening the heat-dissipating mold plates.
After the alloy has been poured in, the casting is freed from the pouring heads by means of pusher pins penetrating all the earth fields at about the same time and entering the pouring channels.
In the device for carrying out this method, one of the mold plates is attached to the casting crucible and is connected to the outer mold plate by a hinge
Plate connected to the casting crucible has stops or the like for receiving the grid provided in the individual fields in a manner known per se with ray-like projections. which is filled through openings of this mold plate, while the push pins for penetrating the ground fields are provided in corresponding openings of the hinged plate.
Both mold plates are provided with grooves to remove the inert gas.
An embodiment of the device for performing the casting process is shown in the drawing, for example, in a schematic representation, u. 1 shows the melting and casting crucible rotating around a shaft, FIG. 2 the crucible with a casting device in the removal position, FIG. 3 the casting machine turned around 1800 compared to FIG. 2, FIG. 4 shows a partial section through the casting crucible the device for making the openings in the finished cast plate, Fig. 5 the same device, but in the retracted position of the push pins. FIG. 6 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of a finished panel, and FIG. 7 illustrates a grid used to manufacture the panel of FIG.

that the casting crucible and the casting mold are filled with inert gas under excess pressure. According to the embodiment shown, for example, the casting crucible is designed as a rotating chamber 1 in which a gas or electric heater 2 is provided. Projections or other aids 3 bring about good mixing of the alloy.
The crucible rotates around a shaft 4, which can be used to supply the inert gas or for the continuous supply of the alloy components. The heating current can be supplied through sliding contacts 5. The casting device, which consists of the base plate 6 and the hinged base plate 7, is directly connected to the crucible 1. It is closed by a lever lock 8.
The panels are manufactured in such a way that a prepared grid is inserted between the mold panels 6 and 7. The mold is then closed, the crucible 1 is set in rotation according to the direction of the arrow in FIGS. 2 and 3, the molten alloy which can be converted into active material through the openings 9 (FIG. 5) in several partial flows essentially perpendicular to the grid surface directly in the mold enters. Each grid cell or cell group represents an independent partial shape formed by the grid bars and the mold plates 6, 7 with its own sprue 9 (FIG. 5).
Before the alloy enters, the inert gas passes through the mold, which is provided with grooves (not shown) for its discharge. A seal or thermal insulation 10 is connected between the mold and the crucible.
The pouring openings 9 of the mold plate 6 and correspondingly large bores in the mold cover 7 serve to guide pins 11 by means of which openings are made in the finished cast plate, if possible immediately before it is completely solidified. The pins 11, which are arranged on a common plate 12 (FIGS. 4 and 5) and can be advanced and withdrawn with this, pass through the openings in the plate 7, penetrate the fields of the plate filled with metal alloy, pass through the openings 9 of the Base plate 6 and push the sprue heads out of the openings 9 so that they return to the weld pool. At the same time, the
EMI2.1
can be controlled by a stop 13 which acts on a gear drive 15 by means of a lever control 14.
All dimensions of the plate and the grid are based on the electrical and mechanical requirements. The plate fields 16 are advantageously smaller after the pole lugs 17. In the plate fields 16, in the plane of the plates at the delimiting edges, beam-like projections 7 are provided in a known manner, which protrude into the active mass, hold it and bring about a good current transfer. The beam-like projections 18 can also be pressed, cast or otherwise produced in any way.
By opening the mold 6, 7, the grid, which is completely filled with the alloy intended for the formation of the active material, is removed. The casting mold is opened and closed in the rhythm of the rotation of the crucible 1, mechanical or electrical control means can be provided which cause the mold 6, 7, 8 to open and close in the appropriate position of the crucible. Several plate molds can also be arranged on one crucible. However, it must be ensured that a sufficiently mixed alloy always gets into the casting mold.
For the plate mold, the temperature and heat dissipation are regulated during the work process. For this purpose, the mold itself can be used by arranging ribs, heating devices, continuous cooling or. For heat dissipation, the like. Be designed in such a way that the metal alloy poured through the openings 9 quickly and completely fills the form washed out by inert gas when it leaks into all corners and solidifies as quickly as possible. In doing so, however, the grid placed in the casting mold, which usually has a lower melting point than the metal alloy, is not melted. Also, the state of the grid is not chemical or mechanical in any

The collector plates produced according to the invention are extremely homogeneous, light, very resistant and insensitive to current and charge fluctuations. The manufacturing process can be combined in the casting process in that the filling of all grid fields is carried out with the immediately following production of the openings 19 with one revolution of the crucible 1 in continuous operation and in a continuous operation.
