Heim Abbrennen zieht sich das imprägnierte Glühstrumpfgewebe zusammen und erfahrt eine Verminderung seiner Grösse, welche ausserdem von unregelmässigen Bildungen in der Fläche des Strumpfes begleitet ist.
Das vorliegende Verfahren ist dazu bestimmt, diese Unregelmässigkeiten zu vermeiden : dieses wird dadurch erreicht, dass man den ahzubrennenden Strumpf in der Längsrichtung streckt. Diese Bchandiung kann durch ein Gewicht erfolgen, welches unten am Umfang des Strumpfes entsprechend befestigt ist. Zweckmässig wird hiezu ein ringförmiges Gewicht angewendet ; hindurch wird die Kontraktion des Strumpfes beim Abbrennen nicht nur in der längsrichtung, sondern auch in der Querrichtung verringert. Durch Veränderung der Schwert'des Gewichtes kann das Strecken des Glühstrumpfes verändert werden. Selbstverständlich darf das Gewicht nicht so schwer sein, dass der Strumpf zerrissen wird.
Bei Anwendung eines Ringgewichtes zur Streckung des Strumpfes empfiehlt es sich, einen aufgeschnittenen Ring zu beniltzen, um den Durchmesser desselben ändern zu können.
