Wechselstrom-Gleichrichter.
Voraussetzung
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to an AC rectifier of the type in which a current collection system interacts with a sliding contact system consisting of two mutually isolated contacts and one of the two systems is made to vibrate by a magnetic field.
Systems with sliding contacts, but with rotating rectifiers, are already known, the brush width being smaller or larger than the space between the sliding contact pieces. The invention makes use of the type in which the width of the brush is practically equal to the insulating width, but in no way smaller than this. In the case of rotating rectifiers, a group of the contact parts sliding on top of one another needs such a width that an extremely long idle travel to be covered with sliding is quite useless. This not only means unnecessary expenditure of force, but above all also a completely unreasonable amount of wear and tear on the contact parts or the brush. Therefore, rotating rectifiers of this type could not attain practical importance at all.
According to the invention, by applying the described arrangement to pendulum rectifiers, an economically viable device is created in one fell swoop, because all the disadvantages occurring for rotating rectifiers are eliminated. The rectifier according to the invention is always economical up to very high powers and enables rectification, with freedom from sparks being guaranteed under all circumstances. According to the invention, the brush of the current collection system has a width which is practically the same, but in no way smaller than the width of the insulating layer between the contacts which it insulates from one another. Contact is therefore always made by touching surfaces, which enables currents of any size to be transmitted.
Furthermore, each non-zero value of the alternating current half-waves is rectified and fed to the place of use; A completely spark-free operation is ensured by the fact that the transfer of the current pick-up body from one contact to the other takes place at the moment when the current is zero and the effective contact area increases or decreases with the increase in the respective current value.
With the highest current value, the contact area will therefore also be the largest. With the current value, the contact area also drops back to zero.
An exemplary embodiment is shown schematically in the drawing.
A wire coil is located in the air gap between the poles of a magnet 1. In the illustration, a conductor loop 2 is assumed for the sake of simplicity, which is connected to an alternating current source, for example via a transformer T. One of the two contact-making systems is connected to the conductor loop by means of a connecting rod 3. In the exemplary embodiment, this connection is carried out for the current collector 4, which is advantageously designed as a carbon brush.
The sliding contact system consists of the two sliding contacts 6 and the insulating layer 5 located between them, which is physically designed in such a way that it forms a surface with the sliding contacts 6 on which the brush 4 slides as soon as it is switched on after an alternating current in the conductor loop 2 the influencing of the same by the field of the magnet 1 is set in a reciprocating motion. An alternating current source is connected to the contacts 6, for example via the same transformer T mentioned above.
If the system is set in motion, according to known principles, a direct current flows between the carbon brush 4 and the center tap of the transformer winding. requirement
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
for the correct operation of the device is that the alternating current flowing through the coil 2 or the like in the magnetic field j? oscillates synchronously with the frequency of the respective alternating current, which is achieved in the simplest way in that an alternating current flows through the coil, conductor loop 2 or the like, which is similar to that to be transformed.
In addition, any vibratory structure can be used for the implementation of the invention for the transmission of currents in unlimited height, if only the drive energy of this vibrating structure is large enough to achieve a sufficient effect under the required pressure of the brush.
In the schematic representation, the transmission of the alternating current half-waves coming to the two sliding contact pieces 6 is indicated schematically.
According to the invention, the width of the brush 4 is at least as wide as the width of the insulating layer 5 for the purposes already indicated. The width of the sliding contacts 6 is also approximately the same.
In the practical version, one of the two systems 4, or 5, 6 is advantageous at the end

is stored, while the parts of the other system are formed correspondingly segment-shaped. In this sense, either the sliding contacts 6 with the insulating piece 5 can be stationary and the current collection element 4 can be designed to be movable; or the reverse arrangement can be used. Such a design has certain similarities with the structure of a dynamo machine.
