Verfahren zum Härten von Steifkappen und im Schuh vorgesehenen Versteifungen.
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Härten von Steifkappen und im Schuh vorgesehenen Versteifungen, bei dem das zu verarbeitende Material, wie Leder, Kork oder ein ähnlich poröser Stoff, mit einer Härtelösung getränkt wird, die das Material im feuchten Zustand geschmeidig erhält und nach dem Trocknen in der gegebenen Form zum Erstarren bringt.
Nach dem bekannten Verfahren wird als Härtelösung entweder eine Alkohol enthaltende Kunstharzlösung, z. B. Polyvinylazetat, oder eine Lösung von Celluloid oder Celluloseazetat unter Beimischung von Harzen, organischen Säuren, Gummi oder mineralischen Materialien verwendet. Diese Härtelösungen haben den Nachteil, dass sie im eingetrockneten Zustand die Poren des gehärteten Materials, wie Leder, Kork od. dgl., verschliessen und dadurch die Aspiration des Fusses durch vollkommenen Luftabschluss behindern, was ein starkes Erhitzen des Fusses, Brennen der Fusssohle und Störungen der Gesundheit zur Folge hat.
Zur Beseitigung dieses Nachteiles und zur Vereinfachung und Verbilligung der Härtemittel wird gemäss der Erfindung beim Härten insbesondere von Steifkappen derart verfahren, dass das zu härtende, entsprechend zugerichtet Material, wie Leder, Kork oder ein ähnlicher poröser Stoff, vorerst in einer Formaldehydlösung getränkt und hierauf im feuchten Zustand vor dem Formen der Kappe oder der Versteifung mit einer wasserlöslichen Klebeschicht (Zwisehenkleber) versehen wird. Beim nun folgenden Zwicken des Oberteils über den Leisten wird gleichzeitig auch die Schuhkappe und mit ihr die Steifkappe geformt.
Beim Trocknen der Steifkappe wirkt die Formaldehydlösung auf die Klebeschicht derart ein, dass diese samt der Steifkappe erhärtet und bei geringstmöglicher Herabsetzung der Porosität des Steifkappenmaterials gegen Feuchtigkeit-, Schweiss-und Wärmeeinfluss vollkommen widerstandsfähig wird.
Nach diesem Verfahren kann sowohl die Spitzkappe als auch die Fersenkappe eines Schuhes und alle andern im Schuh vorgesehenen Versteifungen, Gelenkversteifungen, orthopädische Einlagen, Ausballmasse usw. hergestellt werden.

The invention relates to a method for hardening rigid caps and stiffeners provided in the shoe, in which the material to be processed, such as leather, cork or a similar porous material, is impregnated with a hardening solution that keeps the material supple when it is moist and after it dries solidifies in the given form.
According to the known method, either an alcohol-containing synthetic resin solution, e.g. B. polyvinyl acetate, or a solution of celluloid or cellulose acetate with admixture of resins, organic acids, rubber or mineral materials are used. These hardening solutions have the disadvantage that they close the pores of the hardened material, such as leather, cork or the like, in the dried-up state and thereby hinder the aspiration of the foot by completely excluding air, which causes severe heating of the foot, burning of the sole of the foot and disturbances which results in health.
To eliminate this disadvantage and to simplify and reduce the cost of the hardening agents, the hardening of rigid caps, in particular, is carried out in such a way that the material to be hardened, such as leather, cork or a similar porous substance, is first soaked in a formaldehyde solution and then imbibed wet condition before the cap or the stiffener is formed with a water-soluble adhesive layer (intermediate adhesive). When the upper part is then pinched over the last, the shoe cap and with it the rigid cap are formed at the same time.
When the rigid cap dries, the formaldehyde solution acts on the adhesive layer in such a way that it hardens together with the rigid cap and becomes completely resistant to the effects of moisture, perspiration and heat with the least possible reduction in the porosity of the rigid cap material.
According to this method, both the pointed cap and the heel cap of a shoe and all other stiffeners, joint stiffeners, orthopedic insoles, ballast etc. provided in the shoe can be produced.
