EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Betrachtet man z.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 3 zeigt eine Ausführungsform ähnlich wie Fig. 1.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Fig. 6 und 7 zeigen wiederum rohrförmig ausgebildete Stromstege.
Fig. 8 und 9 zeigen Röhrenkonstruktionen ähnlich Fig. 1.
B. in Fig. 11 gezeichneten Ausgangskreis NI verbunden.
Fig. 17 zeigt eine Ausführungsform ähnlich Fig. 16.
Fig. 19 zeigt eine Ausführungsform ähnlich Fig. 2 mit drei Anoden A'und A"in Form von Kreiszylindern, welche koaxial zum Stromsteg angeordnet sind. Mit den ähnlich angeordneten
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

EMI1.1
The present invention is a tube construction generally used as a magnetron tube for the generation, detection, amplification, rectification and frequency multiplication of electrical waves, especially very short waves, or as a relay with a completely new type of electrode arrangement, in which the structure of the Electrodes, which are known in their mode of action, differ from the shapes customary in tube technology. Furthermore, it concerns the introduction of electron sources not previously used in magnetron tube technology and specification of appropriate constructions and circuits that can be carried out with the tubes according to the invention.
A magnetron is generally understood to be a discharge tube to be used in a corresponding circuit, in which a constant or variable magnetic field is essential for the path of the electricity carriers. A magnetron tube contains at least one cathode and one or more anodes, for which various forms have already become known; z. B. it should be mentioned as known to design the anode in the form of flat plates or cylinder parts, the parting lines running parallel to the cathode lying in the cylinder axis. The linearly directed magnetic field, which runs parallel to the longitudinal axis of the anode throughout, is generated outside or inside the tube.
The following should be said about the operation of the magnetron tube: A discharge tube with at least one cathode and an anode is a magnetron if it cannot do its job without a magnetic field and only needs an additional magnetic field to work, e.g. B. to generate vibrations, is enabled. To influence the electron path, magnetic fields have so far been used in most cases, which were generated by a suitable device outside the tube. It is also known to form the anode in a spiral shape and to send a direct current through this spiral (D. R. P. No. 471524). This always involves fields running parallel to the anode system axis, linearly directed fields with straight lines of force within the discharge space.
It is also known that in electron tubes with a grid the transfer of electrons from the cathode to the anode is influenced by the magnetic field generated by the heating current of the cathode, which surrounds the heating wire in a ring (D. R. P. No. 490286), cf. Barkhausen "Elektronenröhren", Volume 1, 1931, p. 47. By suitable choice of the size of the magnetic field circularly symmetrical to the cathode, the electron paths in the vicinity of the control electrode can be given such a curvature that the effective tube data (slope p and penetration D) are changed significantly. The high-frequency control of the electrons is done as before with the electrostatic electrodes.
It is essential that the cathode of this known arrangement is located in the oscillating circuit (s) and that only a single anode is present. It has also been proposed to use this magnetic field, which is circularly symmetrical to the cathode, to influence the magnitude of the electron current passing from the cathode to the anode (the number of electrons).
The present invention is a magnetron which operates with a current distribution to two or more equal anodes or anode parts, which means that it has at least two anodes that are as similar and equivalent as possible. The cathode or other emission source must be designed in such a way that an alternating distribution of the in approximately constant
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Strength emitted current is possible. For this reason there must always be a cathode between two equal anodes. The cathode is therefore relatively small; it is approximately punctiform or disk-shaped and can be heated directly or indirectly.
In order to be able to bring about a change in the direction of the electron flow in a simple manner, the electron flow can be bundled into a disk-shaped beam as with the Wehnelt electrode.
With the type of oscillation generation present here, a return of the electrons to the emission source and thus a reheating of the same or secondary electron generation is out of the question. This means that the use of high-emission oxide cathodes (without pronounced
Saturation) nothing in the way.
The two-part or multi-part anode delimits a hollow body, eg. B. in the form of two hemispheres with their openings facing each other. Within this hollow body, for. B. in the connecting line of the vertices of the two hemispherical anodes, a linear conductor, which is referred to below as the current bar, is provided, which is approximately perpendicular to the separating surfaces of the anode parts. This conductor (current bar) is normally not heated and only formed on a small part of its surface in a manner suitable for emission by, for. B. in the middle of the conductor (current bar), so in the separation surface of the anodes, a cathode is attached, which z. B. surrounds coaxially in the form of a disc or a circular ring.
In the uncontrolled state, the electron current is distributed evenly to the two anodes and the resonant circuit connected to it is not excited.
The magnetron tube of the inventive design described above can be used in various circuits for generating and amplifying electrical oscillations and for similar purposes, with an electric current being passed through the current bar in all cases, which generates a magnetic field circularly symmetrical to the current bar, which the paths of the Electrons influenced or determined. The current in the current bar can be a direct or alternating current. In the latter case, it can also be a high-frequency current and act as a control current for the alternating distribution of the emission current to the anodes in time with this control current.
If one considers z. B. the case of the separately excited magnetron generator with current control, the following picture emerges: The two anodes of the magnetron tube are connected to an output circuit and the current bar is connected to a high-frequency generator.
The current bar then carries a control current, the frequency of which is determined by the controlling generator and the strength of which is expediently dimensioned in such a way that the emission current is not temporarily suppressed (as is the case with a magnetron tube with a one-piece anode, in which only quantitative control of the current is possible , should be the case), but that the emission current emanating from the cathode with an approximately constant strength under control by the alternating field that surrounds the current bar and is circularly symmetrical to it alternately acts on one anode, now on the other.
In this case, the disk-shaped electron beam (similar to an umbrella that is folded over or like a membrane that is held in the middle and oscillating with its edge) is generated at the rate of the current flowing through the bridge
Control current, now towards one end, now towards the other end of the current bar too bent.
In addition to the example given above, several other operating cases are possible.
The tubes according to the invention offer a number of advantages in all circuits. Above all, they no longer require an external magnetic field. The previously very disruptive, heavy magnet systems and the possibly required high excitation power are no longer required, since the circularly symmetrical magnetic field can be generated with significantly less effort by means of a current running through the current bar.
The anode parts can form an approximately closed, rotationally symmetrical body.
In this way, the discharge path becomes independent of random external fields that could disrupt the process. The closed shape of the anode also ensures that the radiation resistance of the electrode system is reduced to a minimum. In the case of short waves, this prevents a large part of the generated vibration energy from being lost due to this undesired radiation. This energy can now be taken from the generator as useful energy for other purposes. The anodes can, however, also have any open shape, but must always be arranged on both sides of the associated emission source (cathode) and preferably symmetrically to this.
In some cases, in particular in the case of the self-excited circuit, it is advantageous to design the multi-part anode body as closed as possible and to use this together with the current bar as a low-radiation oscillating circuit. In this way, strong high-frequency currents can easily be obtained in the current bar and thus strong alternating control fields which are circularly symmetrical with respect to this.
The invention will be further explained with reference to FIGS. 1-22.
Fig. 1 shows the simplest embodiment of a tube according to the invention. Al and A, the two are z. B. hemispherical anodes. A linear conductor or current bar S, which carries the emission source E in the middle, is provided axially symmetrical to them. The ring-shaped or disk-shaped emission source or cathode is framed by auxiliary electrodes H, which form a circular
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Bundle the disk and point it in the uncontrolled state at the interface between the anodes. Intermediate insulation layers 0 are provided between the current bar S and the cathode arrangement, which make it possible to separate the various voltages from one another. Fig. 2 shows another embodiment, which with a constant magnetic excitation current, z.
B. from a battery BH can be operated. The same reference symbols indicate the same switching elements. The emission sources Ei and are pressed somewhat out of the interface between the anodes At, A "or the slot planes. This measure is intended to correct the constant deflection that the electrons experience due to the constant magnetic field generated by the direct current from the battery BH to be able to make possible by the voltages between the anodes At and A ″, a small asymmetry must be introduced.
In general, it can be said that with tubes according to the invention the greatest high-frequency power is achieved when all electron paths are subject to the same conditions. For this reason, it is advisable to arrange the current bar S symmetrically with respect to the points of symmetry of the anode parts A, such as. For example, FIGS. 1 and 2 show the anode parts themselves to be designed to be rotationally symmetrical to the current bar and to place the emission source (s) E wholly or approximately in symmetry points (n) of the system formed from anode parts and current bar (FIGS. 1 and 2).
In the case of a high-frequency current-controlled magnetron, the angular symmetrical magnetic field surrounding the current bar S changes its size and, above all, its direction in the cycle of the control current.
Under the influence of this alternating magnetic field, the curvature or. Direction of the electrons. In the simplest case, a two-part anode is sufficient for a high-frequency current-controlled magnetron (FIG. 1).
In the case of a high-frequency, voltage-controlled magnetron, the circularly symmetrical magnetic field generated by a direct current does not change its size or direction. The AC voltages that occur between the anodes or groups of anodes are used for control. The direction of the electrons cannot change because it is determined by the constant magnetic field. If a two-part anode is used with high-frequency voltage control, an electron transfer contributing to the generation of visual vibrations can only take place in a half-cycle of the high frequency.
If the oscillations are to be excited in both half-cycles (push-pull circuit), the anode must consist of at least three parts that are suitably connected to one another (e.g. At and A "in Fig. 2). 17i represents the approximate path of an electron in one half-cycle and W2 the path of an electron in the other half-cycle of the high-frequency oscillation.
If a current-controlled magnetron according to FIG. 1 is operated in a self-excitation circuit, the oscillating current itself is used as the control current. In the simplest case, the resonant circuit consists of the mutual capacitance of the hemispherical anode parts A1, A2 and the inductance of the current bar S. Such geometrically approximately closed and therefore low-radiation resonant circuits have low damping or have high resonance sharpness of 300 and more, so that currents can easily flow of a few hundred amperes in the current bar S, which forms the axis of the rotationally symmetrical resonant circuit, can be generated. High resonance alternating currents (reactive currents) can thus be generated with small exciting active currents (anode alternating currents).
It is known that reactive currents are sufficient to generate the control magnetic field, since neither power can be supplied to nor removed from the electrons through the magnetic field; The speed of an electron can never be influenced by a magnetic field, only the direction of the path or the direction of the speed.
FIG. 3 shows an embodiment similar to FIG. 1. The anode body has the shape of a double truncated cone. The current bar S can be extended to the side beyond the approximately closed anode surface in order to emit the generated high frequency. For reasons of symmetry, it will be lengthened evenly on both sides, possibly beyond the discharge vessel R.
The extensions V can be provided with "capacitive weights B" in order to be able to adapt the radiation resistance. This is important if the dipole cannot be designed geometrically to correspond to the wavelength, if the generator is attenuated too much by the radiation resistance of the antenna. In such cases, the dipole is shortened in length and adjusted z. B. by balls that are attached to the ends, back on resonance. Balls have the advantage that their capacitance effect can easily be determined by calculation and that no electrical edge effect occurs on them.
4 shows an embodiment in which the current bar is tubular and in which the feed lines to the emission source (cathode E) are laid in the slot plane, where they are expediently led out twisted to one side. FIG. 4 also shows a conductor L which runs coaxially to the current bar and is separated therefrom by the insulation 0, with the aid of which a magnetic modulation can be carried out. If, in this case, the emission sources were in the separating plane of the anodes, twice the modulation frequency would occur in the high-frequency output circuit, so that the maximum of the high-frequency occurs at every zero crossing of the modulation current, i.e. twice per period of the modulation frequency.
If you want to avoid doubling, you have to have a geometric, electrical or magnetic asymmetry in the magnetron

bring in tube generator. The geometric asymmetry can be remedied by constructive measures, e.g. B. achieve that the emission sources, shifted in the direction of the current bar, attaches outside the slot plane of the anodes.
5 shows various embodiments of the emission source, which is designed here as a spark gap or other gas discharge path, as well as parts of the current bar that form the electrodes of the emission source.
With such designs of the emission source, the current bar must be galvanically interrupted at the points where it would otherwise carry the heated cathodes. The interruption points U carry the differently configurable discharge electrodes F (Fig. 5 a-5 c). The high-frequency current can now go over the discharge path. The high-frequency current can also be given a capacitive shunt N to the discharge path inside or outside the current bar.
If the capacitive bridging N is attached outside the current bar, suitable outlet openings T must be provided for the electricity carriers. The capacitive bridges, which are galvanically separated from the current bar by insulation 0, can be used as magnetic or, depending on the arrangement, also as electrical control elements (Fig. 5 a-5 e).
6 and 7 again show tubular current bars. The supply lines Z to the individual electrodes are laid inside the current bar. In Fig. 7, a perforated auxiliary electrode G is also indicated, which surrounds the emission source.
8 and 9 show tube constructions similar to FIG. 1. The slots between the anodes are covered by cover electrodes D, which lower the radiation resistance and, as FIG. 9 shows, can also be used for modulation purposes.
Figures 10, 11 and 12 show tubes with a plurality of anodes but only a single emission source. These tubes are intended to be used for frequency multiplication. In Fig. 11, a frequency multiplier circuit is shown in principle. The current bar S is designed with the help of the capacitor ast to a resonant circuit, the z. B. is fed by a control transmitter R2 (Fig. 11) via a power line with high frequency. The anode parts, j, 3 ... of the frequency multiplication magnetrons should preferably be designed in such a way that the electron detector remains on each anode part for the same time. Adjacent anode parts are interconnected by inductances I and over them with a z.
B. in Fig. 11 drawn output circuit NI connected.
The inductances I and the part of the circle NK used for coupling will expediently be arranged within the discharge vessel in order to be able to manage with as few passages as possible through the vessel wall.
FIG. 13 shows an external control circuit using a tube similar to FIG. 1. The current bar is again formed into an oscillating circuit with the aid of the capacitor ag, to which the control transmitter R2 is coupled via a power line K. The amplified high-frequency energy can be taken from the resonant circuit formed from the inductance L and the capacitance of the anode parts Al, A2. The directions of the magnetic field in the various half-periods of the control current are denoted by Mi and and the corresponding electron trajectories with and W2.
14 and 15 show tubes whose anode body, which is closed on all sides, has the shape of a double truncated cone. The output circuit is not galvanically but capacitively connected to the anodes. The coupling capacity documents P can now lie inside and outside the tubular vessel R as required.
16 shows a tube similar to FIG. 3 with a current bar extended on both sides and with auxiliary electrodes G within the spherical shell-shaped anodes A. The bias voltages for the electrodes are supplied in voltage nodes on the extensions of the current bar S. The high frequency is removed capacitively by plates P on the current bar extensions.
FIG. 17 shows an embodiment similar to FIG. 16. The feed for the emission source is laid here in the separating surface of the anodes (seat seat level). The pick-up energy is taken by capacitive plates P directly from the anodes.
To cool the anode and / or web, their approaches with devices for artificial cooling by flowing coolant, eg. B. air, water or oil. The phase shift between the controlled electron current and the anode alternating voltage, which is necessary for generating vibrations (self-excitation), is achieved by a variable that affects the transit time of the electrons, e.g. B. by setting the anode DC voltage accordingly.
18 again shows an embodiment with a tubular current bar. A further linear conductor L, through which a modulation current can be sent, is provided within the current bar, separated by an insulating intermediate layer 0. The strength of the modulation current must normally be somewhat higher than that of the alternating control current in the current bar, since the modulation current has an amplitude-related influence on the electron current, i.e. H. thus a temporary reduction should be achieved.
19 shows an embodiment similar to FIG. 2 with three anodes A ′ and A ″ in the form of circular cylinders which are arranged coaxially to the current bar. With the similarly arranged
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Electrodes A. 1I1, for example, an external electrical control is to be carried out using the control current supplied from K.
20 shows the complete circuit of a self-exciting, high-frequency current-controlled magnetron. A spark gap F is provided as the emission source, which offers the advantage of a relatively high yield of charge carriers with a small footprint. The discharge path is fed via a conductor L, which is carried out at suitable points on the current bar extensions (voltage nodes), and via a resistor from a suitable current source.
The electrical center of the emission source is artificially reproduced outside the oscillator.
The oscillator is modulated magnetically, with the current bar having to carry the modulation frequency in addition to the high frequency. The anode voltage is fed to the anode parts A1 and via the middle of the secondary winding of the isolated modulation transformer and the supply lines Zj. The current bar, which in this case encloses the discharge path, is provided with openings T for the exit of the electrons above the emission source. H are auxiliary electrodes at a suitable potential.
21 and 22 show circuits for rectifying and receiving vibrations using the tubes according to the invention. The extended current bar is used as the receiving dipole in FIG. The entire arrangement can be provided with a reflector mirror to increase the directivity. The arrangement is such that the entire emission current, as long as no characters are received, passes primarily to the central anode part Aa. The electron fan must therefore be formed in such a way that it has approximately the width of the ring-like segment Aa when it hits the central anode part.
For demodulation you now have to use the high frequency z. B. magnetically via the current bar S, Fig. 21, or z. B. electrically via auxiliary electrodes H, Fig. 22, act on the electron fan so that it is deflected or widened to the right and left in a high-frequency rhythm.
EMI5.1
Assemble the source so that the modulation frequency can be picked up at point X (full wave rectification).
The sensitivity of these receiving arrangements can now be increased in a known manner by connecting the anode parts J-i, A2 via an impedance to a resonant circuit which is precisely or approximately (superposition reception) tuned to the receiving frequency and largely undamped the receiving system, e.g. B. by making the system almost or up to self-excitation by a suitable choice of the anode voltage and / or after the type of pendulum feedback in the system in the cycle of an auxiliary frequency (pendulum frequency) can vibrate and make them disappear again.
