EMI1.1

EMI1.1
Wall insulation against moisture using an insulating layer of sheet glass embedded in the joint mortar have all the advantages due to the nature of the material, but have numerous joints which, according to a proposal, should be covered with glass strips and cemented. Such a joint seal, apart from the drying of the putty, cannot remain effective for the long term, since changes in the masonry due to subsidence or temperature fluctuations are sufficient to cause the putty to crumble and to open passages for moisture.
According to the invention, the butt joints between the glass panels are covered by lead strips or the like, whereby a more reliable joint seal is achieved. In addition, the new joint seal can be carried out in a simple manner and, in contrast to the known cementing, is much less dependent on the conscientiousness of the workers, which is of particular importance given the fact that such wall insulation is no longer accessible afterwards. For the reasons mentioned, the number of joints no longer plays such a large role in the new insulation, so that window glass waste can also be used to reduce the cost of the insulation.
The glass panes are expediently cut in a straight line and laid in such a way that there are only small joints over which the lead strips, for example 10 mm wide, are laid. Under the pressure of the growing wall, these strips are pressed more and more firmly against the glass panes and penetrate the joint wherever possible, so that it is also closed by the more or less forming ridges. The lead pressed on both sides of the joint acts as a sealing strip. In addition to lead, strips made of tin or soft alloys can also be used, but lead has proven to be particularly advantageous.
