Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for the production of a nickel-chromium steel suitable for the production of objects by stamping, pressing and other cold working.

   The invention relates to the production of a ductile nickel-chromium steel for the production of objects by stamping, pressing or other cold work which are to be corrosion-resistant or not to suffer from staining in contact with the acids contained in food or to have both properties.

   According to the invention, there is a tendency towards staining for the production of a large number
Objects such as metal equipment of all kinds, as well as forks, spoons, plates and other household items, a nickel-chromium steel alloy with a carbon content not exceeding 0-2% and a content of 11-5 to 13% each of nickel and chromium, which according to the invention a great ductility is granted. by heating them to temperatures of 950 C to 1090 C and then subjecting them to slow or rapid cooling. A temperature between 1000 and 1050 C. is preferred for this heat treatment.

   It is known to produce objects such as boilers, pipes and machine parts, which must be very resistant to acids, especially nitric acid, and which must have great strength, from heat-treated Niekel chromium steel alloys, for which, however, compositions and temperature intervals have only been given within wide limits .

   However, within the present narrow composition limits, the heat treatment according to the invention leads to a very ductile material which is very resistant to corrosion and the staining effects of acids contained in foods and which can be cold-worked effectively and economically.

   It has been shown that, according to the known Erichsen test for determining the maximum deformability, sheets made of brass, tin and other metals, which were previously used for the production of the above-mentioned metal objects, show a deformation of 10 to 14 mm. The known nickel-chromium steel alloys, heat-treated in a known manner, show a maximum deformation of 12 to 14 mm deepening value. However, the alloys heat-treated according to the invention and having the specified composition show cupping values of 17 to 20 mm. These alloys also do not suffer from rapid cold work hardening; H. the hardening effect of cold work is relatively small.

   It is a largely cold work, such as punching, pressing and the like. Like., made possible without softening and tempering is required.
