Fig. 4) auftritt.

Switch with electrolytic holding liquid.
The subject of the parent patent is an electrical switch with electrolytic switching fluid for the interruption of high-power circuits, in which an increasing resistance is switched on with the movement of the electrodes, whereby the fluid body between the electrodes is switched on in such a way that the fluid does not pass through the fluid in any spatial element during the switching process Electricity heat is generated at the boiling temperature corresponding to the existing external conditions. By dimensioning the switch according to this regulation, it is possible to build arc-free high-performance switches based on the principle of pure resistance switching, in which the majority of the shutdown power is destroyed in the resistance fluid.
The invention consists in allowing the change in distance between the electrodes to take place in a flowing liquid. This has the advantage that the active liquid through which the current flows is at least during the critical switching period-d. i. at the beginning of the electrode separation-renewed; the current density at the electrodes can be many times that of that

Isoliermateiialien on the other hand is limited, u. in order to avoid free liquid surfaces connected with the atmosphere or a gas or vapor layer, since experience shows that sliding sparks easily occur along such liquid surfaces.
The flow of the liquid can be achieved by taking advantage of the natural gradient, expediently using additional facilities such. B. by a spring or compressed air operated piston.
It is also possible to generate the liquid flow through a propeller-like structure which is driven by a motor. It is also conceivable to initiate the flow of liquid by evaporating part of the liquid by a device fed by the cut-off current and thus placing the actual active liquid under increased pressure. This arrangement has the advantage that the acceleration of the active liquid is greater, the greater the current to be switched off.
According to the invention, the process of increasing the resistance is also controlled in such a way that the breakdown electric field strength of the active liquid is not reached during the entire process. In particular, the electrical utilization of the apparatus is very good if the electrical stress remains constant during the entire process, i.e. That is, applied to a cylindrical resistor body when the voltage drop is proportional to the respective electrode spacing.
In Fig. 1, any liquid flow is shown by the arrows 1. 2 and 3 represent switch electrodes which are switched into the circuit to be interrupted and whose contact surface 4 is essentially parallel to the direction of flow. By moving the electrodes apart in the direction of arrows 5 and 6, the electrode spacing can be increased, and the resistance of this structure increases accordingly. As the liquid flows through, the active liquid volume located between the electrodes is constantly renewed.
The basic arrangement according to FIG. 2 shows particularly favorable conditions, the liquid 12 flowing through the sieve-like electrodes 13, 14. The flow velocity of the liquid 12 is greater than the movement of the electrode 14 in the direction of flow.
3 and 4 show an arrangement with a movable multiple electrode made up of electrode areas of decreasing cross-section. In Fig. 3 the switch is closed. The electrodes 23-25 touch. 25 is in conductive connection with the switching piece 34. The current is fed to the electrode 23 and taken from the switching pin 33 by the sliding contact 45.
The liquid, whose level is at 22, is initially accelerated by the piston 21 and already hits the stationary sieve 23 at a certain speed. It then first passes through the movable sieves 24 and 25, whereby the gas in the cavities 26 and 27 is compressed. As the liquid flows through the sieve electrodes 23 and 24 at the beginning of the electrode separation, the liquid parts, which are strongly heated due to the high current load, are Conveyed non-conductive cavity 26 and replaced by fresh liquid which enters from below through the sieve electrode 23 in the space between the electrodes.
Since the entire switching movement is carried out in a very short time, the flow continues for the most important part of the switching process.
During the switching, the movable screen 24 moves together with the piston 28 upwards. As a result of the acceleration, the sieve 25 is initially pressed firmly against the sieve 24. This state continues until the piston 28 hits the stops 29 (see FIG. 4). The sieve 25 now separates from the sieve 24, and a new body of liquid 30 with a significantly smaller cross section and thus a correspondingly faster increase in resistance is created. After a certain time, the piston 31 hits the stops 32, then only the switching pin 33 continues its movement and in the process separates itself from the switching piece 34.
In Fig. 5 an arrangement of the invention with deformable electrodes is shown. 35 means a metal vessel with a compressed air connection 36. The insulating vessel 42 is connected to this

fixed electrode to which the current is supplied, 38 the surface of the deformable, e.g. B. made of mercury movable electrode, at 43 the current is taken from the mercury body. After opening the tap 39, the resistance fluid 40 is pressurized. If the cock 41 is then opened, the liquid 40 and the mercury mass 44 are first accelerated. As soon as the mercury level 38 leaves the sieve electrode 37, the activation of an active body of liquid begins.
For this arrangement, too, it is important that the liquid is given the opportunity to accelerate before it is switched on, so that it is brought into the circuit at a certain speed from the start. The tapering isolation vessel 42 ensures that the average cross-section of the active liquid volume is reduced as the switch-off time increases.
