Description

Aluminiumlegierung.
EMI1.1

Ti, up to 0 # 35% Mn and 0-02 to 0-05% Mg.
It has been found that castings made from alloys composed according to the parent patent show a localized weakening or uneven strength or structure. This deficiency is due to the oxidation that can take place during the melting process or while it is flowing into the mold. This influence can occur all the more easily if the alloy has been in the liquid state for some reason for a considerable period of time; it has a particularly difficult effect on certain molds and causes local foaming to occur.
Such foaming or oxidation can be reduced considerably if a small amount of zinc, not more than 5% and not less than 0.01% of the total amount obtained after the addition, is added to the alloy in the molten state. The zinc is advantageously added to the mold immediately before the alloy is allowed to flow into it. Some of the zinc will be lost in favor of flow and fineness. If the alloy is first cast into bars, which are later to be melted and cast into the desired cast pieces, the zinc can be added in one of these casting processes.
If it takes place during the casting of the ingot, the loss of the zinc content during the subsequent casting process will not assume any serious extent.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for casting aluminum alloys according to patent no. 134602, characterized in that zinc is added to the molten alloy at a rate of not more than 5% and not less than the total amount obtained after the addition.
