Hardening agents and methods for hardening tools made of iron or steel.

The invention relates to a hardening agent and a method for hardening tools made of iron or steel, especially those which are suitable for processing wood, cardboard, leather, etc.
 EMI1.1

The present method, using the aforementioned hardening agent, consists in sprinkling the tool heated to 600-700 C with blood liquor salt, after decomposing it, heating it again to 800-900 C and bringing it to a mixture to cool, which consists of 250 g coal dust, 75 g blood liquor salt, Y2 1 oil and 250 g ground slate and so many parts by weight of water that the whole mixture is slightly liquid.

It should be noted that the blood liquor salt is well decomposed before the tool is heated for the second time. It is also advisable to immerse the tool in the specified mixture in cold water after it has cooled down.

This type of treatment of tools made of iron or steel brings about an improvement and cut-resistant hardening of the same in the transformation zone of the material, the occurrence of cracks or cracks being avoided.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Hardening agent for tools made of iron or steel, which consists of a mixture of water, coal dust, blood liquor salt and oil, characterized by the addition of clay pine meal, preferably in such a ratio that a mixture consisting of approximately 250 g coal dust, 75 g blood liquor salt and Y2 1 oil, add about 250 g of ground slate and so many parts by weight of water that the whole mixture is slightly liquid.

   2. A method for hardening tools made of iron or steel, characterized in that the tool heated to 600-7000 C is sprinkled with blood liquor salt, after it has decomposed again
