Würde man z.

Fig. 3 zeigt schematisch ein Ausführungsbeispiel der Erfindung.
Trifft man die Anordnung so, dass durch den Kontakt 27 beim Schliessen des betreffenden Hilfsstromkreises (wenn also das Metall im Zylinder 23 hochgestiegen ist) der elektrische Strom im Stromkreise der Elektroden 24 und 25 umgekehrt und damit zugleich die Kraft, die das flüssige Metall zwischen den beiden Zylindern hin-und hertreibt, umgekehrt wird, so wird nach Strom- schluss des Kontaktes 27 das Metall aus dem Zylinder 23 angesaugt und in den Zylinder 22 hineingedrückt ;

Compressors for refrigerating machines.
The invention relates to a compressor for refrigerating machines, in which a liquid metal is moved under the action of a magnetic field acting on it. According to the invention, a light metal, in particular an alkali metal, e.g. B. sodium or potassium, or an alloy of sodium or potassium is used. If the electrical current is not passed through electrodes into the liquid, but induced in such a way that the streamlines of the electrical current run entirely within the liquid, difficulties associated with the contact resistance between the electrodes and the liquid are avoided, but in general, the Liquid is a ponderomotor force field that is not free from eddies.
If the force field in the liquid metal is not free of eddies, useless currents arise in the liquid, which lead to losses.
With a normal three-phase motor, of course, only the resulting torque that acts on the armature is important, because the armature is a solid body that always moves as a whole. When moving a liquid, however, it is not just the resulting force that matters, but the entire distribution of forces within the liquid, and this is related to the fact that devices for the electrodynamic movement of liquid metals cannot simply be modeled on motors without considerable losses to accept.
The electrodynamic device for moving the liquid metal is of the type in which there are two or more electrical windings on which there are electrical alternating voltages which are phase-shifted relative to one another, so that a "moving" magnetic field (rotating field, traveling field, etc.) is created which in the liquid metal induces such electrical currents that the

a special design of this device, in which the ponderomotive force field within the liquid metal is free of eddies.
Would you z. If, for example, the gap between the rotor and stator of an ordinary three-phase motor is filled with a conductive liquid, such as mercury, the mercury in the annulus would, of course, be carried along by the rotating field and circle around the axis of the annulus. The field of the ponderomotor force would by no means be free of eddies in mercury. In the central part of the cylindrical annulus, i.e. H. in the middle between the two edge lines formed by the end faces of the "rotor core", a considerable force would act that would let the mercury rotate in the annulus, while in the vicinity of the two spur gears there would be virtually no ponderomotoric force that would act on the Exposure to mercury.
The mercury would flow in the opposite direction near the edges.
In an arrangement according to the invention, the liquid metal is also in an annular space, but the individual teeth of the armature do not run parallel to the axis of the annular space as in the stator of an ordinary three-phase motor, but they surround this axis in a circle, so that the in the liquid induced electrical currents circle the axis of the annulus and the ponderomotoric force that occurs leads the liquid from one edge curve to the other.
Such an arrangement provides an eddy-free ponderomotive force field on the cylinder surface, to which the gap, which is thought to be infinitely narrow, shrinks. The design of the surface that forms a gap in the borderline case is important here. Should the force line field be vortex-free,
EMI1.2

area forms. The magnetic lines of force flow through this area practically vertically everywhere. The lines of force of the ponderomotive force run along the generators of the surface or, in other words, from a point on one edge curve delimiting the surface to a point on the other edge curve, e.g. B. in the case of a cylindrical surface from a point of one edge circle to a point of the other edge circle.
Since it is only a matter of these relationships, it does not matter whether the surface that forms a gap in the borderline case forms a cylinder, a cone, an annular surface or a similarly shaped, self-contained surface. By deformation z. B. there are various other arrangements for which the essential features of the invention apply. So you can z. B. deform the cylinder surface to a conical surface with two circular edge curves and further up to a flat surface with two circular concentric edge curves without changing the relationships.
Accordingly, vortex-free force fields can be achieved on the surface, with the lines of force of the ponderomotive force running from one circular edge curve to the other.
The efficiency of the electrodynamic drive device is quite good by using alkali metals, u. between this is due on the one hand to the high electrical conductivity and on the other hand to the low density of the liquid light metal. In the relatively narrow gap in which the electrodynamic force acts on the liquid metal, a turbulent flow takes place, and friction losses occur which are very reduced when the density of the liquid metal is low.
If you use the liquid light metal in a liquid jet pump or in similar apparatus, you also achieve good efficiencies, u. between both absolute and related to the device dimensions. This is because the speeds that can be achieved with the given pressure conditions for the liquid light metal are relatively high.
The low vapor pressure of the light metal is also important, as it ensures that the operating fluid does not distill into those parts of the apparatus in which it would cause malfunctions.
EMI2.1
The liquid light metals, such as. B. the above-mentioned potassium-sodium alloy, most metals attack but can be used without interference in apparatus made of iron in the absence of air.
In addition to hydrocarbons, such as propane, butane, pentane, etc., u. a. also consider ether, u. between both ethyl ether and others, e.g. B. methyl ethyl ether.
Fig. 1 shows schematically a refrigeration machine with a liquid jet pump in a known type. 1 is a device according to the invention, by means of which the liquid metal is set in motion by electrodynamic means. The liquid metal is conveyed through the pipe 2 into the liquid jet pump 8. Here, the vapor of a refrigerant is sucked off via the line 4, compressed in a pipe 5 rising vertically upwards and pressed into the gas separation space 6. From here the liquid metal flows back into the device 1 via the downward line 7, while the vapor of the refrigerant flows through the line 8 into the air-cooled condenser 9 and is liquefied there.
From here the refrigerant flows back into the evaporator 11 via the control element 10.
In Fig. 2 the device 1 is shown in detail. An iron core 1. 3 is located in the cylindrical iron pipe 12. In the cylindrical annular space 20 between the iron core and the pipe 12, mercury flows under the action of the magnetic generated by the windings 14 to 17

flow are phase-shifted by approximately 900 with respect to one another, whereas the windings 14 and 16 and also the windings 15 and 11 can be connected in series, and the like. so that the current in one winding circles the iron core 13 in the opposite direction than in the other. 18 are the teeth of the sheet metal packet 19, which can be seen in section A-B in FIG. 2a, which are located between the grooves serving to receive the winding.
If the polarity is correct, the meganet field, which penetrates the mercury in the cylindrical gap, moves from top to bottom; the speed of its displacement results from the product of the number of periods and the identity distance of the windings. An electric current is induced in the mercury and circles the iron core 13. Such a streamline is drawn in FIG. The force acting on the mercury is everywhere parallel to the cylinder axis, and the force field is practically vortex-free.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The 90 degree phase shift between the currents of the adjacent windings is produced in a manner known per se, roughly as was proposed for the production of the synthetic phases for single-phase asynchronous motors. To compensate for the reactive power, a capacitor can be connected to the network in parallel with the device.
If three-phase current is available, the device according to FIG. 2 is connected to the power source in such a way that a uniformly moving magnetic field (traveling field) is created, i.e. H. the windings 14, 15, etc. are connected like the windings of a three-phase motor.
When using a sodium-potassium alloy, in view of the high conductivity, the arrangement according to FIG. 2 can also be carried out in a different way, the mode of operation then not being reminiscent of the multi-phase motor, but of the single-phase motor. All windings connected in series can be used here in the operating state, u. polarized so that in the neighboring

Light metal already through the cylinder, this flow is maintained by the electromagnetic forces just as the movement of the rotor of a single-phase asynchronous motor is maintained once the motor has been started. Starting can also be done here by briefly
Time an art phase generates a moving magnetic field.
You can get the liquid light metal by making sure that its direction of flow is in the
Gap is periodically reversed, using the circuit described, in which the force in each case in
Meaning the already existing movement works, also hold in a back and forth movement, without periodic switching of the current (switching) being necessary.
Fig. 3 shows schematically an embodiment of the invention. 21 is a device by means of which a force is exerted on a liquid metal in an electromagnetic way and this is pressed out of the cylinder 22 into the cylinder 23 and, when the polarity of the electrodes 24, 25 is reversed, out of the
Cylinder 23 is conveyed into cylinder 22. The polarity reversal takes place automatically with the help of the contacts 26, 27, which are housed in the lateral extension tubes 28, 29 and when in contact with the
Mirror in each of these extension tubes close an auxiliary circuit.
Said extension tubes are connected to the cylinders 22, 23 by thin lines 30, 31, through which the liquid metal penetrates into them when the mercury level in the corresponding cylinder has risen, and through which the metal flows out of the extension when the metal level has risen has decreased in the relevant cylinder.
With this arrangement, the position of the mirror in the extension tube is not a clear function of the position of the mirror in the cylinder. Rather, the relationships are such that when the large mass of metal oscillates back and forth between the two cylinders 22 and 28, the liquid metal in the extension tubes 28, 29 follows with a large phase shift.
If the arrangement is made in such a way that when the relevant auxiliary circuit is closed (when the metal in the cylinder 23 has risen), the electrical current in the circuits of the electrodes 24 and 25 is reversed and thus at the same time the force that the liquid metal between the drives both cylinders back and forth, if it is reversed, the metal is sucked out of the cylinder 23 after the contact 27 is closed and pressed into the cylinder 22;
Although the metal level in the cylinder 23 begins to sink immediately after the current is reversed, the material level continues to rise for a while in accordance with the phase shift in the extension tube 29 (until the two levels are at the same level), and the auxiliary circuit of the contact 27 is only interrupted when the metal level in the cylinder 23 has sunk far below the contact point.
If the current in the circle of the electrodes 24, 25 is reversed again when the current in the auxiliary circuit of the contact 27 is opened, the liquid metal now begins to flow over from the cylinder 22 into the cylinder 23 again, and the metal level in the cylinder 23 then rises again first the level in the extension tube 29 continues to drop for a while. In this way there is a vibratory structure, and the liquid metal oscillates between the two cylinders 22, 23 continuously. Although one contact point 27 is sufficient in principle, two connection tubes with contacts are shown in the figure.
In the cylinder 23, the vapors of the refrigerant are sucked in from the line 32 via the valve 33 when the metal level falls, while at the same time in the cylinder 22 the vapors are compressed when the metal level rises and are pressed into the pressure line 55 via the valve 34.
After the current has been reversed, steam is sucked in from the suction line 32 in the cylinder 22 via the valve 36, while at the same time the vapors in the cylinder 23 are compressed and passed through the valve 37 into the pressure line 35. The device according to FIG. 3 thus works like two piston pumps connected in parallel. The pressure line 35 is connected to the air-cooled condenser 88 through the line 39, the evaporator 40, into which the refrigerant liquefied in the condenser 88 reaches via the line 41, through the line 42 to the suction line 32.
