Device for regulating circuits depending on the power factor.
Devices for regulating the power factor have already become known in which two magnetic fields act on a Ferraris disc, one of which is dependent on the current and the other on the voltage. Furthermore, switching arrangements have already been proposed for this purpose in which two relay coils are connected in series with regard to a voltage converter or voltage divider and relay coils connected in parallel with regard to a current converter are provided, the effects of which cancel each other out at the value of the power factor to be regulated. The relay coils form an electrical bridge with ohmic resistances, the opposite bridge points of which are fed by a voltage converter or a current converter.
To set the power factor to be kept constant, a controllable resistor is provided parallel to the secondary winding of the current transformer.
A much simpler design of a device for regulating circuits depending on the power factor or for measuring the power factor is obtained according to the invention in that an auxiliary reactive load connected to the network is assigned a relay in such a way that it depends on the difference between the current and the current after the auxiliary reactive load is influenced. The relay assigned to the auxiliary reactive load is expediently designed as a differential relay, one coil of which is connected directly or indirectly in series with the network before and the other coil after the auxiliary reactive load. If the cos tp of any consumer is to be regulated by means of compensation reactive resistances, it is advantageous to select a capacitance as the auxiliary reactive load for an inductive useful current.
In this way it is achieved that the auxiliary reactive load acts in the sense of compensation, i.e. fulfills two tasks at the same time. In systems in which some of the compensation resistors cannot be switched off, these resistors are used in whole or in part as an auxiliary reactive load.
The new switching arrangement is particularly suitable for regulating the power factor of induction ovens, in which the reactive component is to be compensated by a variable number of capacitors.
An embodiment of the invention for controlling the power factor of an AC circuit using a variable number of capacitors is shown in the drawing, u. Between FIG. 1 shows the circuit arrangement, FIG. 2 shows a vector diagram.
The alternating current source 2 feeds a variable load 3 via the network 1, which can also consist of several partial loads and may have an inductive impedance so that the current of the load 3 lags behind the applied voltage by a certain angle. In order to keep the power factor at the value 1 or any other previously determined value, any number of capacitors 4, 5 and 6 is provided, which can be connected to the network 1 by means of the switches 7, 8 and 9, respectively.
These switches 7, 8 and 9, which may be of any known and expedient design, are actuated by means of the coils 10, 11 and 12, respectively, which are activated via contacts 22, 26 and 30 when the switches 7, 8 and 9 are open can be connected to the actuating circuit, while when the switches 7, 8 and 9 are closed they are connected to a special holding circuit via contacts 23, 27 and 31, which is controlled by a relay coil 18 with contacts 19. Apart from the coil 10 of the first switch 7, with each subsequent coil 11 or 12 a delay device 24 or
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
28 provided auxiliary holder with the contacts 25 or 29 connected in series, which is only released when the previous switch is inserted. The whole device is controlled by a differential relay 15. This differential relay has two counteracting coils 16 and 17, one of which (16) by means of a current transformer in front of an auxiliary capacitor 14 connected to the mains, while the other (17) also by means of a current transformer after this Auxiliary capacitor is connected in series with the network, so that both coils carry currents that are proportional to the corresponding network currents.
The mode of operation of the entire device will be explained with reference to FIG. The vector diagram shown here may have a direction of rotation that is counterclockwise. If the load 3, including any capacitors 4, 5 or 6 that may be connected, has an inductive character, a current J 17 flows in the coil 17, which - according to the solid diagram - lags the mains voltage E by a certain angle. In order to obtain the current J 16 of the generator, the capacitor current J 14, which leads the voltage E by 900, must be vectorially added to the current J 17.
With a predominantly inductive load, as can be seen, the current J 16 is present
EMI2.1
If the current J 17 is of a capacitive nature, it leads the mains voltage E by a certain angle. If the capacitor current J14 is added to this current in the aforementioned manner, the generator current J16 is again obtained, which in this case, however, is greater than the consumer current J17: this diagram is shown in dashed lines.
It can therefore be seen that, depending on whether the current flowing in the line leads or lags the voltage, the current in coil 16 is greater than the current in coil 17 or vice versa. Is

cancel, this relay does not initially cause any further changes in the facility.
When the force of the coil 17 predominates, the contacts 20 and 21 close, whereby the actuation circuit is initially closed for the coil 10, which leads from the negative pole of a power source via 20, 21, 22, coil 10 to the positive pole of the same power source. The actuating coil jO responds and puts the switch 7 on, whereby the capacitor 4 is connected to the mains. The actuation circuit is interrupted by opening the contacts 22, while the holding circuit is closed by bridging the contacts 23. When the switch 7 was closed, the auxiliary holder equipped with the delay device 24 was released and the contacts 25 closed after a certain time.
This creates a new circuit which runs from the negative pole of the aforementioned power source via 20, 21, 26, coil 11, 25 to the positive pole. The switch 8 connects the capacitor 5 to the mains, opens contact 26 and thus the actuating circuit of the coil 11, bridges the contact 27 and thus places the coil 11 in the holding circuit. At the same time, the auxiliary switch with the delay device 28 and the contacts 29 is released. If the desired power factor has not yet been achieved by connecting capacitors 4 and 5, then capacitance 6 or other capacitors (not shown) are also successively switched on.
However, if the activation of the capacitors 4 and 5 is sufficient to give the power factor in the network the desired value, the relay 15 will release the contacts 20, 21 so that further capacitors are not switched on.
EMI2.3
successively switched on to the mains and switched off at the same time.
The connection of the auxiliary capacitor 14 to the differential relay 15 can also be used to put an auxiliary motor into operation at the required moment, whereby a corresponding device is controlled which changes the power factor in the desired sense. The execution can e.g. B. be done in such a way that when the contacts 20 and 33 close, a remote-controlled switch is inserted, whereby the auxiliary motor is connected to the network in such a way that it adopts the required direction of rotation and changes the device driven by it to improve the power factor to be regulated . When the power factor has reached the desired value, contacts 20 and 33 open so that the auxiliary motor is switched off.
If the power factor deviates in the other direction, the contacts 20, 21 touch in the known manner. As a result, another remote-controlled switch is inserted, which connects the auxiliary motor to the mains in such a way that its direction of rotation is opposite to that previously mentioned. The device controlled by the motor is now actuated until the contacts 20 and 21 are released, i. H. the power factor has the specified value.
Such an auxiliary motor can, for. B. can be used to control the excitation of a reactive current machine, which is known to have the property of absorbing a capacitive current in the event of overexcitation and an inductive current in the event of underexcitation, and serves to compensate the power factor of networks. The auxiliary motor can in this case, for. B. be assigned the task of changing the position of a regulating resistor, whereby so much resistance in the excitation circuit of the reactive

The generator is switched on or off as necessary to give the desired value to the power factor. In this way, for. B. also the cell switch of a battery can be controlled, which serves as a power source for the excitation.
