EMI1.1

EMI1.1
It is known that electrical valves and mercury vapor rectifiers can be controlled with the aid of grids that are charged positively or negatively. An auxiliary direct current source is generally necessary to charge the grid with positive or negative potential. These
Auxiliary DC power source often creates an undesirable complication in the control equipment.
The invention now relates to a device which avoids the installation of a special auxiliary direct current source for controlling the grids. Tests have shown that) IetaIIteilc. which are insulated inside a rectifier, assume a potential when the arc is burning which lies between the potential of the anode and that of the cathode. According to the invention, such metal parts are used as an auxiliary power source for charging grids with a positive voltage with respect to the cathode.
The subject of the invention is thus a device for generating a control potential for the controllable grid of mercury vapor rectifiers and valves, in that insulated metal parts are attached which are acted upon by an arc independent of the working arc between the anode and cathode and from which the positive control potential is taken.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the invention is shown schematically, u. The figure shows the use of grids assigned to the exciter anodes of a mercury vapor rectifier as a potential source for the controllable grid of its main anodes.
In the exemplary embodiment, a denotes a mercury vapor rectifier with an anode b and cathode c. The controllable grid upstream of the anode is labeled d. The exciter anodes of the rectifier are marked with ei. referred to, they are fed from the transformer /. The exciter anodes are preceded by the metal grids g1.g2, which are insulated from the rectifier housing and conductively connected to one another and are led to the switch h.
The one between the exciter anodes and the

is laced. z. B. by arc guiding sleeves, sieves or the like. The excitation system is expediently multi-anodic and three-phase, so that the conductively connected grid of the cathode assume an almost constant potential.
The negative potential often required for grid control is expediently obtained by connecting an ohmic resistor k to the cathode, the other end of which is connected to the star point of the transformer feeding the exciter anodes and from which the negative control voltage is taken. Limiting resistors are denoted by i.
Instead of grids as a potential source, any other insulated metal parts provided within the rectifier can just as well be used.
With the device according to the invention, the excitation current of a rectifier is used not only, as before, to generate the excitation of the rectifier, but also as an auxiliary power source for controlling the grid of the main anodes.
