Process for achieving an even distribution of the pressure on the self-adjusting tiltable sliding jaw of sliding pressure bearings.
The invention relates to sliding pressure bearings in which one of two cooperating pressure surfaces consists of individual tiltable sliding jaws. With such bearings it is of the greatest importance that when the bearing is assembled, the individual tilting pieces all have exactly the same thickness, because otherwise individual tilting pieces are loaded beyond the permissible extent.
In the manufacture of thrust bearings of this type, the procedure so far has been that the running surfaces of all tilting pieces are brought into a common plane simultaneously by reworking, the tilting pieces being connected to the mounting plate by means of appropriate intermediate layers and by screwing them down while the running surfaces are being processed.
This method has the disadvantage that the originally existing equality of strength of all

can be spotted on the pressure ring.
The aim of the invention is to avoid this disadvantage, and achieves this purpose in that first the running surfaces of all tilting pieces are made exactly flat by scraping and spreading, that all tilting pieces are then fixed with this flat running surface facing downwards on a magnetic platen and that finally the backs of the tilting pieces can be reworked by means of a grinding wheel or the like guided parallel to the clamping plate.
In the drawing, the invention is shown in one embodiment, u. 1 and 2 show the shape of the tilting pieces and their arrangement in the thrust bearing in plan view and in section along line 2-2 of FIG. 1, while FIG. 3 illustrates the method forming the subject of the invention.
The rotating part of the sliding pressure bearing consists of the shaft (not shown) and the pressure ring A made in one piece with it, while the fixed part is formed by individual sliding blocks which are arranged in a known manner in the bearing housing B so that they can be used to achieve a Oil wedge can tilt around an edge cl. The sliding jaws or tilting pieces C are secured against displacement in the radial direction by rings G, H fixed in the housing and against displacement in the circumferential direction by holders D, the ends of which engage in the rings G, H.
The mode of operation of such thrust bearings is known and does not need to be specifically explained here.
The processing of the tipping pieces C, which are actually finished and filled with a white metal contact surface & poured out, is carried out in such a way that the white metal contact surfaces are first made exactly flat by grinding and scraping; then the tilting pieces are placed with the running surface down on a magnetic plate E and current is fed into this, whereupon the back surfaces de tilting pieces C are ground to the same height by means of the grinding wheel F.
Since the processing is now completely finished, the tilting pieces must all have absolutely the same height so that the pressure is automatically transferred evenly to all tilting pieces.
