  Anodes for electrolytic purposes.

Amorphous or graphitized carbon anodes are used today for electrolytic purposes
Carbon, either in the form of carbon rods or carbon plates. The carbon rods have been tried and tested for a long time, but they caused difficulties in the power supply. When it was possible to manufacture artificial graphite, which made it possible to connect vertical rods as a power supply to the horizontal anode plates by means of screw threads, one switched to the plates because of the more convenient power supply, although they are compared to the rods, especially with higher ones
Current densities, causing various disadvantages; which depends on the heavier development of chlorine
Plates and reduction of the effective surface with the same. Anode weight compared to
Rods.

The edge effects also cause overload and they attack the panels, which gives rise to further corrosion.

The present invention enables the maintenance of the cheaper power supply to the
Plates, while avoiding their disadvantages, by using the carbon plates, e.g. B. lengthways, provided with slots and all edges, namely on the side facing the cathode, are rounded for the purpose
Elimination of the harmful edge effect through even distribution over a surface.

The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of this electrode. FIG. 1 electrode, sectioned through a slot, FIG. 2 electrode, section perpendicular to the slots, FIG. 3 electrode, viewed from above; a is the electrode plate, b the current-carrying bolts, c the slots (through the whole
Plate thickness going recesses) and d the rounded edges facing the cathode.
