Fig. 2 eine Längsansicht des Inneren des Akkumulators,
Fig. 6 eine Ansicht des Trägers zur Aufnahme des Zinkniederschlages,
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Negative zinc electrode for electrical collectors.
The invention relates to negative electrodes for electrical collectors, in which the surface that receives the zinc precipitate during charging is divided into several elements connected in parallel with one another and with the external circuit.
The purpose of the invention is. to provide an electrode in which the surface for receiving the zinc is formed by a metal plate provided with parallel slits, such that the electrode consists of mutually independent parts, the ends of which are connected to one another by the edges of the plate. The edges of the plate must have a cross-section such that they offer the lowest possible resistance in order to ensure a uniform distribution of the current. The latter can be achieved in that the edges of the plate are chosen to be sufficiently wide or thick, or expediently by bringing the edges into engagement with the sides of a conductive frame with which the external circuit is connected.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, and it is:
1 shows a front view of a complete accumulator according to the invention with the end wall removed,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal view of the interior of the accumulator,
3 is a view of a negative electrode according to the invention,
Fig. 4 is a section along the line 4-4 of Fig. 3,
FIG. 5 is a section along line 5-5 in FIG. 3.
6 shows a view of the carrier for receiving the zinc precipitate,
7 is a view of another embodiment of the negative electrode and FIG
8 is a section along line 8-8 in FIG. 7.
The accumulator illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2 has three negative electrodes / and two positive electrodes 2, which latter can consist of lead plates of any suitable type and in which the active material is formed by the lead oxide. The electrodes are accommodated with separating members 3 in a container 4 which holds an electrolyte formed, for example, from a solution of zinc sulfate in sulfuric acid with or without the addition of other substances. The negative electrodes 1, the positive electrodes 2 and the separating elements 3 engage with their lateral edges in insulating grooves 13 in the outer parts 5.
In the illustrated embodiment, each negative electrode consists of a thin metal plate 6, for example brass, which is expediently silver-plated and cut out in such a way that parallel strips 7 remain. A piece of zinc S is applied to each strip 7. The whole of these parts 8 forms the active surface of the electrode. The thus finished plate 6 is inserted with its edges into a three-sided rack frame 9 in such a way that the strips 8 assume a horizontal position as soon as the electrode assumes its working position in the accumulator.
For this purpose, the frame 9 has grooves on the inside at least on its side walls, and its upper side is provided with a projection 10 on which the connecting piece 11 serving to connect the lead wire of the external circuit is attached.

The connection between the plate 6 and a frame to be connected to the external circuit can also be produced differently. As shown in Figs. 7 and 8, one can, for. B. use a frame 91, which consists of a wire, the side parts of this frame are attached to the edges of the plate 6 by flanging these edges.
In any case, as a result of this design, each negative electrode is formed from several separate elements, which act independently of one another and are connected in parallel to the circuit. The sides of the frame 9 or 9 'offer the passage of current such a cross-section that the exact distribution of the current over all the elements connected in parallel is always guaranteed.
The entire surface of the metal support that is not coated with zinc is expediently covered with a varnish that isolates the metal parts from the electrolytes. In this way, the zinc precipitation takes place exclusively on the zinc while the accumulator is being charged, which prevents the formation of local chains that would result in the event that zinc were deposited on another metal.
The negative electrode described is extremely simple and makes it possible to reduce the strength of the electrode to a minimum and to facilitate assembly and repairs.
