EMI1.1
The essence of the invention consists in the fact that the upper frame of the furnace, which carries the entire electrical device, can be tilted together with the hearth which is independent of the upper frame and which can be extended in the working position of the latter. For this purpose, the furnace is mounted on cradles which, if necessary, can rock on curved or flat cradle supports by interposing rollers, balls or the like. The supporting members for the electrical equipment are expediently attached to the cradle supports or to brackets attached to them.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the invention is illustrated, u. Between. Fig. 1 shows an external view of the furnace and Fig. 2 shows a vertical central section through the same.
The stove a consists of a cylindrical or prismatic vessel made of sheet iron, cast iron or cast steel with an internal fire-proof lining, which has one or more doors b and a pouring opening c. At the top the hearth is closed off by a vault d and at the bottom it rests on four wheels e, by means of which it can travel on the track t. It is driven either manually or mechanically by means of a winch, a screw shaft, a rack or a hydraulic cylinder, etc.
The actuators for tilting the furnace mainly include two cradles g, which carry part of the track t and their lower circular part, with or without the interposition of rollers, balls or the like, on curved or straight cradle beams attached to the foundations h can swing. Stands I are attached to the outer sides of the cradle or to brackets attached to them, which cross members m serve as support and guide members, which in turn carry the electrodes n. The weight of the cross members as well as the electrodes can be balanced by weights o. On the top of the cross member m sit bronze power supply terminals p, which hold the electrodes n and supply the same the current by means of horizontal bars and flexible copper cables.
The electrodes n go with their lower part through cooling jackets which hang down from the cross members m and join the up and down movement of the same, sliding completely sealed in cooling rings r, the cross supports j of which are attached to the cross piece m.
The rocking movement of the cradles is caused by the lever operated by a screw shaft or rack. The screw shafts or racks can be driven by an electric motor, a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder, etc. The rocking movement brought about in this way causes the molten metal and the slag to be poured out of the hearth, the upper frame of the furnace being tilted at the same time as the latter.
