Fig. 4 veranschaulicht die
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Doctor blades for calender rolls or drying cylinders of paper machines.
The invention relates to doctor blades for doctoring the paper stock from the calender rolls or drying cylinders of the paper machines. Such knives consist of a flexible one
Steel rail that is held in place by resilient cross members so that its cutting edge can lie precisely against the surface of the roller.
In the doctor blade according to the invention, the cross members are not spaced apart, but are arranged close to one another, so that they form an uninterrupted surface through which pieces of paper scraped off by the roller cannot fall through. Since the cross members are arranged in an uninterrupted row on the side of the knife blade facing away from the roller, the knife blade is not pressed against the roller at intervals, but with the same force over its entire length.
The drawing illustrates the subject matter of the invention in an exemplary embodiment. 1 shows a schematic representation of a pair of rollers with the doctor blade, FIG. 2 is a plan view of part of the doctor blade, and FIG. 3 shows a cross section of the knife. Fig. 4 illustrates the
Teaching for attaching the doctor blade in cross section and FIGS. 5 and 6 show a further embodiment of the doctor blade.
In Fig. 1, 1 designates the lower of the two rollers between which the paper web 2 is guided. As soon as the paper stock or a part adheres to the roller, it is scraped off by means of the doctor blade 5. In the known paper machines, which often produce paper webs of great width and therefore have relatively long rollers, it has not previously been possible to press the doctor blade equally hard along the entire roller.
This disadvantage is eliminated by the design illustrated on a larger scale in FIGS. 2 and 3. The blade 3 of the doctor knife is a long, narrow, thin steel strip with a cutting edge bevelled on one side. The blade sits on cross members 4, which are formed from steel strips and are attached to a longitudinal rod 5 by means of cap screws 9 and rivets 8. The cross members 4 hold the blade 3 by means of screw bolts 6 and washers 7, which are offset, as FIG. 3 illustrates. The blade is therefore not clamped immovably when it is turned and pressed against the roller, but can be adjusted accordingly by longitudinal displacement, if necessary.
The end cross members are bent over to prevent longitudinal displacement of the blade beyond the end members.
In some cases it is advantageous to let the cross members 4 overlap the longitudinal rod 5 more strongly and to slightly bend the overlapping end in the manner illustrated in FIG. 5. By tightening the screws 9, as can be seen from FIG. 6, the bent part of the cross member 4 is partially flattened and pressed against the (machined) edge of the longitudinal rod 5, so that the cross member is exactly along the sharp edge of the longitudinal rod 5 support.
The storage of the stripping knife and the device for pressing the knife at a certain angle against the roller are designed in a known manner. The longitudinal rod 5, which has a rectangular cross-section, is inserted in the longitudinal slot of a tube 10 arranged parallel to the roller and clamped in the slot by means of screws 11 seated at intervals in the tube 10. The tube 10 has forked pivot arms 12 at its ends, which are fastened by means of screws 13. In the fork-shaped end of each pivot arm 12 engages a handlebar 14 on which a displaceable ring 15
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
sits whose wedge-shaped nose 16 engages in a recess in the pivot arm 12.
The ring 15 rests on the swivel arm 12 and the doctor blade 3 by means of a helical spring j seated on the handlebar 14! ? ' a pressure which can be regulated by means of the nut 18.
The handlebar 14 is rotatably supported on a plate 19 which is fastened to the frame of the paper machine by means of screw bolts 20 reaching through slots 21. In this way, the longitudinal rod 5 of the doctor blade 3 can be set higher or lower as required and with the desired angle of attack against the surface of the roller.
Proper setting of the doctor blade angle is essential and changes for
EMI2.1
Angle of the doctor blade according to the manner illustrated in FIG. 4, a gauge 22 on the roller. The gauge is in contact with the pressure roller along two generators 23, 24 and has a flat surface 25, the inclination of which with respect to the radius (in broken lines in FIG. 4) corresponds exactly to the setting angle of the doctor blade.
