Spark plug with an electrically heated barrel for starting heavy oil engines.
The present invention relates to a spark plug which is used for starting heavy oil engines, and in which an electrically heated glow element is attached to the plug
Insulating body is worn. With the known candles of this type, the deficiency has been found that the end of the center electrode protruding into the combustion chamber and its connection with the glow wire are attacked and sometimes completely destroyed as a result of the action of the hot gases. This results in at least a very poor contact at the connection point and an insufficient effect of the candle. Under certain circumstances, the attack of the hot gases leads to the extent that the metal parts flake off and leaves fall into the interior of the cylinder, which can damage the cylinder barrel surface.
In order to eliminate these deficiencies, according to the invention the insulating part carrying the incandescent body is designed in such a way that it completely surrounds the end of the center electrode protruding into the cylinder and its connection with the glow wire and thereby both before the direct attack of the combustion gases and the resulting consequences protects.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the subject invention is shown in partial longitudinal section.
Between the threaded connector a of a glow wire plug, with which it is screwed into the machine cylinder Z, and its central electrode b, an insulating body c is braced in that the central electrode is screwed into a mating thread in the insulating body with its lower ground running out into a thread and the insulating body is pressed through that thread with a shoulder d against the lower end of the container nozzle a.
A glow wire t is wound on the insulating body c. According to the invention, the insulating body forms a closed cap over the end of the center electrode, and one end of the filament f is inserted through a bore e in the cap and conductively connected to the center electrode b. The other end of the filament is attached to the threaded connector a.
Before the center electrode b is screwed to the insulating stone c, a heat-resistant, suitable putty in a soft state is expediently introduced into the threaded hole in the insulating stone. This avoids the creation of cavities in the insulating stone which fill up with flammable gases and which, under certain circumstances, can cause the insulating stone to burst due to their ignition. The cement can be introduced in excess, so that when the center electrode is screwed in, it is forced out through the hole e and also completely fills this.
The insulating stone c can also be attached to the candle in another way without deviating from the inventive concept. For example, it could be attached to the plug body using suitable screw connections without using the central electrode to hold it in place. Likewise, the insulating body carrying the glow wire can also be designed as the foot of the upper insulating body J of the spark plug. The feature of the subject matter of the invention always remains that that in the cylinder
