Abstract

A candidate hydraulic fracturing fluid composition containing proppant is selected to stimulate an underground formation. A bridging criterion is calculated based on the composition of the candidate fracture fluid and the geometry of the fracture. A mathematical model and a hydraulic fracture design are developed that consider the bridging criterion. The hydraulic fracturing design is further simulated using a computer-based fracturing simulator. Adjustments are made to the hydraulic fracture design based on the simulation results to minimize or avoid bridging. Then a hydraulic fracture treatment is carried out according to the final design.
