Abstract

In one example, the motion monitor includes: (1) a communications interface configured to provide motion information for downhole equipment in a well, where the downhole equipment is connected to a cable, and (2 ) a rotation detector configured to generate rotation data associated with the movement of downhole equipment within the borehole, where the movement information corresponds to the rotation data and the rotation data is based on a rotation device in contact with a stressed part of the cable.
