Abstract

Claim 12: A process for producing a bio-derived copolymer from a bio-derived aromatic acid and a bio-derived diol, characterized in that it comprises mixing a bio-derived aromatic acid and a bio-derived diol to produce a homogeneous reaction mixture; esterifying the homogeneous reaction mixture to produce one or more intermediate esters; oligomerizing the one or more intermediate esters to produce one or more oligomers; and polycondensation polymerizing the one or more oligomers to produce the bio-derived copolymer of the bio-derived aromatic acid and the bio-derived diol. Claim 16: A process to obtain a bio-derived copolymeric product, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: producing a bio-derived aromatic carboxylic acid from sources of ethylene oxide and bio-derived carbon monoxide; producing a bio-derived diol from sources of ethylene oxide and bio-derived carbon monoxide; esterifying the bio-derived aromatic carboxylic acid and the bio-derived diol to produce an intermediate bio-derived aromatic ester; prepolymerizing the intermediate bio-derived aromatic ester to produce an intermediate bio-derived oligomer; polycondensation polymerizing the intermediate bio-derived oligomer to produce the bio-derived copolymer product.
