Se divulga un fluido de mantenimiento de pozos. Se formula el fluido de mantenimiento de pozos al combinar ingredientes que comprenden: un fluido basado en agua que comprende iones sulfato a una concentración mayor de 50 mg/l; un agente quelante; y un ácido en una cantidad suficiente que resulta en el fluido de mantenimiento de pozo teniendo un pH de 4,5 o menos. También se divulga un método para el mantenimiento de un pozo.
