Abstract

Claim 1: A continuous casting mold heat treatment system for thermally treating the pre-cooled portion of an internal wall of the mold cavity, characterized in that it comprises a continuous casting mold configured to produce a cast piece, the mold comprising: a mold structure with a mold cavity arranged to receive the molten metal, the mold cavity which includes an inlet of the molten metal and an outlet of a cast piece; an internal wall within the mold structure, the internal wall that generally defines the perimeter of the mold cavity, the internal wall that includes a direct cooling portion and a pre-cooling portion upstream of the direct cooling portion; and where one or more sections of the perimeter angle identified in the pre-cooling portion of the inner wall are configured to reduce heat transfer compared to the other portions of the inner wall around the perimeter of the inner wall.
