Abstract

The process involves oxidizing a calcium polysulphide intermediate in a series of reactors, such as a series of tank reactors with continuous agitation, to produce calcium thiosulfate as a clear liquid at high concentration with minimal by-products. In the first reactor, calcium polysulfide is partially oxidized, and the resulting solution is transferred to a second reactor and further oxidized. The solution produced in the second reactor is transferred to a third reactor and then substantially oxidized completely to form a completely oxidized calcium thiosulfate solution.
