Abstract

This provides an apparatus and methods for stretching one or more areas of an anisotropic fabric and anisotropic fabrics that include one or more stretched areas. Each of the stretched areas in the fabric is stretched in the transverse direction of the fabric, that is, the transverse direction to the downward direction of the fabric. Stretching can be performed continuously as the fabric advances through the apparatus in the downward direction of the fabric. The method of stretching an extensible fabric in the transverse direction is generally performed, in an substantially continuous, anisotropic, extensible fabric. The transverse stretch of the fabric occurs in an orientation zone established by an orientation unit. The orientation unit moves the fabric out of the plane of the fabric, where the fabric is under tension, but without any lateral limitation. The fabric moves over the orientation unit where the degree of orientation is proportional to the transverse direction of a part of the fabric by means of the orientation unit. The anisotropic fabric has a tensile strength in the descending direction of the fabric greater than in the transverse direction; such that the fabric is preferably displaced in the transverse direction of the fabric by the orientation unit. This may be a tensile strength in the downward direction of the fabric at least 50% greater than in the transverse direction of the fabric.
