Abstract

An analogical rule designed so that medical professionals can measure pain in the same patient at different times or in different groups of patients receiving different treatments. The rule comprises a comparatively flat piece (10) defining two main faces, front (11) and reverse (12), one of said faces having a linear scale (13) in which only the trajectory and the marks of both ends are defined (13 a) and (13b). The mark (13 a) represents "no pain" and the mark (13b) "maximum bearable pain" according to the parameters of the patient. The opposite side of the ruler coincidentally has a scale (14) that has the same configuration and path and is graduated, both scales being associated by a cursor (20) that is guided in the piece (10) between two stops (15) and (16) capable of positioning the visual indicator signal (25) and (25 ') of the cursor selectively with the ends (13 a-14 a) and (13b-14b) that are coincident with said scales. The distance from the mark (13 a) to the mark given by the position of the visual signal (25) in the line (13) represents the intensity of the pain and the coincident mark (25 ') of the cursor establishes a numerical value in the graduated scale (14).
