Abstract

Claim 1: A centrifugal separator characterized in that it includes: a helical conduit that rotates around a central axis; an inlet orifice that supplies a fluid flow that includes solids or particles entrained within one end of the helical conduit; a first outlet orifice at a point away from the inlet orifice along the helical conduit to receive the portion of the fluid flow closer to a radially external section of the helical conduit; and a second outlet port to receive the rest of the fluid flow; wherein the rotating helical duct is effective to impart a force radially outwardly to solids or entrained particles in the fluid flow, whereby the entrained particles or solids are concentrated in the radially external section of the helical conduit.
