Curtientes obtenidos por reacción de por lo menos un aldehído de la fórmula general (1), con por lo menos otro aldehído idéntico o diferente de la fórmula (1), en donde las variables tienen las definiciones siguientes: Z significa un enlace químico simple, alquileno C1-12, cicloalquileno C5-12 o arileno C6-14, eventualmente sustituidos, realizándose la reacción en presencia de un catalizador ácido y opcionalmente en presencia de por lo menos otro compuesto carbonilo de la fórmula (2), en donde R1 a R4 significan, independientemente, hidrógeno, alquilo C1-12, cicloalquilo C3-12, aralquilo C7-13 o arilo C6-14, eventualmente sustituidos, siendo preciso, que cuando Z significa un enlace simple o un radical sin átomos de alfa-hidrógeno, esté presente por lo menos otro aldehído de la fórmula (1) en el que el radical Z contenga átomos de alfa-hidrógeno o por lo menos otro compuesto de carbonilo de la fórmula (2).
