Abstract
Se revela un método para preparar espuma de carbón, que implica pirolizar por lo menos un material pirolizable en la presencia de una cantidad suficiente de por lo menos una fuente oxidante. El material pirolizable, o los productos de su descomposición, pueden proveer el combustible, o puede utilizarse un combustible separado. El material pirolizable y la fuente oxidante y opcionalmente una fuente combustible pueden ser introducidas en cualquier orden o en cualquier combinación. También se describe la espuma de carbón resultante preparada mediante este proceso. Además, la espuma de carbón hecha mediante este proceso puede ser utilizada en una variedad de aplicaciones finales que incluyen electrodos, materiales de aislación térmica, polímeros, elastómeros, y similares.
