Abstract

A process for increasing the production of cysteine, in plant cells and plants, by overexpression of SAT (Serine acetyltransferase) enzymes in plant cell chloroplasts and in plants including such chloroplasts, for example by overexpressing enzymes, is described and claimed. Cysteine-sensitive SAT (plant chloroplastics SAT (SAT1)) of bacterial origin or cysteine-insensitive SAT enzymes, such as plant cytoplasmic SAT (SAT3), of bacterial origin or of mutated plants, numbed by mutagenesis. Also, the remaining objects, mentioned in the title, are described and claimed.
