Abstract
A method of control and inhibition of micro and macrobiofouling (Bio-fouling) consisting of dosing in the different systems that use natural waters directly, whether fresh or salt, a stabilized chlorine dioxide solution, in a concentration ranging from 1.0 to 15.0 %, obtained by acidification of alkali metal chlorite with hydrochloric acid, up to pH 2-3, subsequently raising it to a pH of 7.0 to 9.5. The doses applied are 1.0 ppm to 200.0 ppm, as free C IO2, in intermittent periods of 60 to 240 minutes, once or several times a day, once a week, or every day, depending on the degree of infection to be fought. It comprises, at present, the stabilized solutions of chlorine dioxide obtained from the following scheme: Alkali metal chlorite (chlorine dioxide contributor); Hydrochloric acid, as a pH reducer and chloride (catalyst) contributor; One oxidizer, such as hydrogen peroxide; A stabilizer of hydrogen peroxide, exclusively, the sodium salt of DTPA (diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) or the alkaline salt of HEDP (1,1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid); A penetrant, exclusively an amine oxide, such as dedimetillaurylamine oxide or dimethylmyristylamine oxide; An alkalizing agent, alkali metal hydroxide.
