Abstract

An absorbent article having a liquid permeable top sheet layer, a bottom sheet layer and an absorbent structure located in the middle. The absorbent article has a front waist section, a rear waist section and an intermediate section that interconnects the two waist sections. A perforated coating defines at least partially a posterior portion of the contact-body surface of the article and may include a layer of perforated contact-body film. The top sheet layer defines at least partially a front portion of the contact-body surface and can be a fibrous material. The perforated lining defines a faecal target zone and improves the ability of the absorbent article to contain fecal materials of low viscosity and to separate said materials from the user's skin. The perforated coating can be formed by releasing a perforated film layer to a hydrophilic fibrous material with low density. An absorbent body can also be attached to the lower side of the perforated liner. A portion or all of the perforated coating may cover the upper sheet layer and the absorbent body may be placed between the perforated coating and the upper sheet layer. Joining the perforated coating in superimposed relationship with the top sheet layer facilitates the manufacture of the absorbent article.
