Abstract

A process for the manufacture of thin-walled items, and a thin-walled tube. The process comprises the following steps: select a polymeric mixture that has an ESCR greater than 10 hours according to the following procedure: provide a plurality (preferably 6 or more) of strips of the polymer mixture that includes any post-molding treatment intended for final articles that have the cross-sectional dimensions of 0.65 mm thick and 10 mm wide, and that were molded by injection, under high cut conditions and a large flow similar to those intended to be used in the manufacture of the flexible article with thin walls, fold the strips on themselves backwards, and stack them 3 mm from the fold, immerse the folded strips in a solution of an internal stress cracking agent, maintained at a temperature of 50sC, observe injuries to detect symptoms defisuration; and determine the ESC R of the mixture which is when 50% of the strips show signs of cracking; melt said polymeric mixture; stomp the molten polymer mixture into a mold, said mold having a cavity that produces an article of thin walls having a se ccionde thickness less than 1 mm. and in which the thin section is substantially continuous by more than 50 mm in the direction of the flow of the polymer mixture fused in the mold; and remove from the mold, the article of thin walls formed from the polymer mixture.
