Abstract
The electrolytic cell proposed to carry out cathodic protection experiences with reinforced concrete specimens consists of a 60 cm long, 40 cm wide and 20 cm deep plastic material container that allows it to be placed in its interior, longitudinally and equidistant from the sides, up to eight steel-concrete specimens connected in short circuit and on each of the sides of the cell four prismatic compartments of 16 cm high built with ceramic tiles properly connected to each other, where the anodes of the cell are placed at a distance of 20 cm with each other and with the ends of the container. The anodic compartment is filled with the same electrolyte as the cell but with a pH equal to 8.0, obtained with sodium hydroxide solution (carbonate free). The anodes will be of platinum of electrolytic purity when no aggressive substances are generated to platinum, on the contrary, for polarization potentials of up to -1000 mV, steel electrodes of the SAE 1010 type are used and for lower potentials, 99 molten zinc anodes are used, 9% purity The potentials are measured with respect to a saturated calomel type reference electrode or similar. The circuit that is used to polarize the cell is by printed current and is capable of maintaining the potential at the steel - concrete interface within narrow limits during the execution of long-term cathodic protection laboratory experiences. The printed current polarization circuit is characterized for containing a voltage source of direct current, adjustable, of 0-12 volts, a resistance in series with the electrolytic cell, variable, of 1000 ohms and a resistance in parallel with said cell, fixed, of 30 ohms.
