Abstract

4-Methylguiacol (2-methoxy-4-methylphenol) and related compounds are potent repellents of tsetse flies. 4-Methylguiacol decreas by about 80 % the number of flies attracted to cattle with proportionate reduction in feeding efficiency. Such chemicals provide useful tool in the integrated management of tsetse and trypanosomosis and other blood feeding insects.
