Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely discriminate the truth/false of paper sheets without generating erroneous discrimination ever in the case of a remarkably dirty paper sheet by discriminating the truth/false while considering the degree of dirt of paper sheets in addition to the quantity of luminescent materials contained in paper sheets. CONSTITUTION: Light emitted from paper sheets 2 irradiated with exciting light from a 1st light radiating means 3 is transduced into an electric signal by a 1st photoelectric transducing means 6 and based on this transduced electric signal, a 1st detecting means 8 detects the quantity of luminescent materials contained in the paper sheets 2. Besides, light from the paper sheets 2 irradiated with light from a 2nd light radiating means 9 is tranduced into an electric signal by a 2nd photoelectric transducing means 12 and based on this transduced electric signal, a 2nd detecting means 14 detects the degree of dirt of the paper sheets 2. Then, a discriminating means 15 discriminates the truth/false of paper sheets based on the detected results from both the detecting means. Thus, the truth/false can be surely discriminated without generating the erroneous discrimination even in the case of remarkably dirty paper sheets.
