Abstract

The innovation relates to a method of medical care, medical examination, expert opinion as well as provision of medicines or approval of immediate entry to hospital with a phone call, available 24 hours a day. With this service, the patient/subscriber provided with a cardiograph at his space anywhere in Greece, may, in case of some heart related problem be connected via a fixed line phone, a mobile phone or via Hellas Radio on VHF with the cardiologist of the Medical Centre, and speak to him referring to his problems and symptoms. He then sets the electrocardiograph into operation. Simultaneously, the special chip installed in it is set into operation, permitting the doctor to view the patient. The cardiogram is immediately made available to the doctor who performs a diagnosis and according to the seriousness of the case gives his commands. These may range from advice to the patient, through therapeutical treatment with medicines to admission to the Hospital. For the Attica Region, The Medical Centre "Care for Life" undertakes admissions to Hospital, whereas for the rest of Greece the service is provided by the National Ambulance Service (EKAB).The system of cardiology tele-diagnosis can find applications at homes, agrarian health centres, or regions where no health centre exists, in some public space (e.g. municipality) where some volunteer can be easily trained to the simple use of an electrocardiograph.
