Abstract

A stand alone secure access web camera is a self contained digital camera for transmitting live data via telecommunication and the internet. It is primarily intended for viewing locations remote from its operating base by using the internet as a connection for control and transmission. The camera may have a dedicated modem and dedicated access/operating software. The camera controls and data can be accessed by any computer connected to the internet but subject to security restrictions, e.g. only on transmission of an encrypted code. Power may be via a rechargeable supply.

Description

1 STAND ALONE SECURE ACCESS WEB CAMERA 2359437 This invention relates to a
self containedt secure access web camera.
In essence a web camera comprises a digital camera chip circuit board in a housing. This needs to be connected to an independent PC or computer system before data can be accessed or transferred to the internet.
The problem with this system is that the web camera can only be used within close proximity to the controlling computer which in turn must be controlled by the operator. The monitoring of more than one location or of a distant location requires a complete web camera, computer and operator setup at each one.
This invention does away with the need for a separate computer and operator in each location a web camera is required, effectively allowing one PC or computer system to monitor an intinite number of locations independently and at will Stand alone secure access web cameras can be installed at any location worldwide and can be accessed from any location worldwide simply by connection to a telecommunications system and power source. This device will work equally well in a closed or private system.
Because this device is self contained and can be accessed by any computer or telecommunications device using the internet, a programmable electronic access code is incorporated to ensure only authorised users can activate and receive data from this device.
Multiple users can view the same location if required.
The Stand Alone Secure Access Web Camera is a completely self contained unit only requiring a power. source and a fixed or mobile phone line to enable operation. If required its own power supply and mobile telecommunications unit can be incorporated into the unit.
This device would normally be a fixed installation but may take the form of a mobile or hand held unit.
A specific embodiment of this invention is described here.
Within one unit are combined the following, HARDWARE, SOFTWARE, Powersupply board, microprocessor based control unit, web camera, modem.
Operating, access restricting and telecommunication.
1 This hardware and software may take the form of one circuit board or can be constructed of separate modules.
This device is installed at the location to be monitored and connected as required to a power supply and a telecommunications system.
The device becomes active on receipt of a correctly coded signal sent by means of the internet or closed system, received by the modem and accepted by the decoder unit.
The microprocessor will then process the data received from the web camera unit and transmit this via the modem to the activating computer or telecommunicabions unit.
If required the stand alone secure access web camera can be installed on a motorized mount which can also be controlled by the onboard microprocessor via the internet.
