Abstract

The invention relates to a device (probe) consisting of a transmitter and a receiver (probe modified such that the mouth fits into a silicone support for scanning the details of the mouth). An ultrasonic pulse is transmitted against the part of the mouth located above the ultrasonic scanners. Some of the pressure of the pulse is absorbed and some returns to a sensor. This depends on the ridges, pores and other details specific to each region of the mouth and the mucosa. There is no microphone that hears these return signals. Instead, a sensor device able to show mechanical pressure is used to calculate the intensity of the returning ultrasonic pulse at different points. Scanning for longer periods of time allows additional depth data to be gathered, leading to 3D replication. There is less chance of the ultrasonic sensor becoming damaged, compared to photosensitive scanner sensors, or being tampered with from the outside, and sweat and saliva will not interfere with scanning.
