Abstract
A user equipment (UE) may include multiple high frequency antenna array groups, with each group including one or more arrays. Each array is configured to form beams for wireless communications. The UE may determine whether to switch from a first beam of a first array to a second beam of a second array within the same array group by evaluating the beam qualities of the first and second beams and a threshold or margin according to a predefined criterion. The UE may select a group from the multiple groups for use based on signal qualities measured by low frequency antennas positioned closely to the respective array groups, an orientation of the UE, a gripping area on the UE, or a combination thereof.
