Abstract
The present invention relates to a device used in locations that are far from mobile phone coverage and in vehicles travelling through areas that are far from mobile phone coverage. The device has a high-power transceiver unit and a large antenna for interacting with the phone network, its range being much longer than the transmission range of the phone. The device appears to the network or networks as if it had the SIM cards of all the phones in its coverage and which are permitted to use the service. The device interacts with the phones via WiFi, using an application designated for this purpose that is installed on the phones. When a message comes to one of the phones, the device receives and forwards it to the requested phone; when an incoming call comes to the phone from the network, the device receives and forwards it to the requested phone. Outgoing phone calls and outgoing messages are made by calling the device, which in turn communicates via the network as if it were the requesting phone. An Internet activation request can be made from the phone bearing the data costs, and subsequently other phones can connect to the Internet, the service being from the device. The device comprises a location for a data SIM or communication SIM so that it can operate on behalf of the Internet-connected phone or the network-connected phone to provide the Internet service or the communication service to the phones. If the location of the phones to be served is vast, the device has more than one WiFi transceiver unit that can be distributed across that location. The device also has additional services.
