Abstract

A device for stabilizing a cuff (2) on surfer's leg, the cuff (2) being connectable by a coupling (3) with a surf leash (1). The device comprises a sleeve (4) made of chloroprene rubber based material. The sleeve (4) is intended for encircling the surfer's leg at least in the area above the ankle. At the cuff (2) fastening area there is a flap (5) provided on the sleeve (4). The flap (5) is equipped with at least one vertical incision (6) at one end and the flap (5) is attached to the sleeve (4) at least at this end in a detachable way.

Description

A device for stabilizing a cuff on surfer's leg Technical Field The invention relates to a device for stabilizing a cuff on surfer's leg, the cuff being connectable by a coupling with a surf leash.
Prior Art Surfing is a sporting activity where a surfer stands on a surfboard and runs down the side of the advancing sea waves. In order to prevent loss of the surf board when the surfer falls into the water, the surfer has a cuff attached over his/her ankle using a Velcro fastener. This cuff is connected to the surf leash via the coupling. At the other end, the surf leash is fixed to the surfboard.
Under the surge of waves, however, the cuff attached to the surfer's leg is rotated so that the coupling with the surf leash then does not have an optimal angle to the surfer's leg, and this encourages the tangle of the surf leash around his/her legs. An aim of the invention is therefore to provide a device, which stabilizes the cuff attached to the surfer's leg and prevents the cuff from rotating around the ankle.
Disclosure of Invention The aim is achieved by a device for stabilizing a cuff on surfer's leg, the cuff being, connectable by a coupling with a surf leash. The device comprises a sleeve made of chloroprene rubber based material and the sleeve is intended for encircling the surfer's leg at least in the area above the ankle. At the cuff fastening area, there is a flap provided on the sleeve, while the flap is equipped with at least one vertical incision at one end and the flap is attached to the sleeve at least at this end in a detachable way. An advantage of the device made according to this invention is that the coupling is so firmly engaged in the vertical incision of the flap so that the cuff is not able to rotate around the ankle of the surfer. According to a preferred embodiment, the flap comprises two parallel vertical incisions, one of which is from the surfer's view located on the left hand side and the other on the right hand side of his/her leg.
In another preferred embodiment, the detachable connection of the flap with the sleeve is formed by a Velcro and/or buttons and/or knobs and/or zippers.
The sleeve may on its lower part at least partially surrounds surfer's foot.
It is advantageous if the flap is attached to the sleeve, at the end located away from the vertical incisions, in a non-detachable manner, preferably it is sewn.
According to the another preferred embodiment the sleeve is formed by a lower part of a leg of a protective suit made of chloroprene rubber based material. The sleeve may be provided with at least one pocket on the sleeve for storing objects, in particular a knife and/or a GPS locator and/or a key.
Brief Description of Drawings At Fig. 1 , there is a schematic illustration of the first embodiment of a device for stabilization of the cuff at the leg of the surfer according to the invention. At Fig. 2, 3 and 4, there is a second example of a shorter sleeve in different views. At Fig. 5, there is an example of the embodiment of a device according to the invention with an opening sleeve. At Fig. 6, there is an example of an embodiment of the device according to the invention, in which pockets for different objects are located on the sleeve.
Description of preferred embodiments An example of a device for stabilizing the cuff 2 at the foot of the surfer according to the Fig. 1 comprises a sleeve 4 made of chloroprene rubber based material. In the embodiment shown, this material is neoprene, i.e. polymerized chloroprene. The sleeve 4 at least partially surrounds the foot at the bottom, and the upper edge of the sleeve 4 extends below the surfer's knee.
At the position, where the cuff 2 is attached, there is a flap 5 provided on the sleeve 4. It has a vertical incision 6 located at its lower end. At the upper end, the flap 5 is sewed to the sleeve 4 and at the lower end is attached to the sleeve 4 in a detachable manner by means of the so-called Velcro fasteners 7. Of course, other detachable fastenings can be used instead of Velcro fasteners, such as buttons, knobs, and the like. For ease of handling, the flap 5 is equipped on the underside with handles 8 in form of stitched strings.
According to the embodiment not shown, the flap 5 can be attached to the sleeve 4 in a detachable manner at its both ends, instead of being sewed or glued.
At Fig. 2, 3 and 4, a similar embodiment is shown, which differs from the embodiment of Fig. 1 only in that the sleeve 4 is shorter, extends only above the surfer's ankle and leaves the surfer's foot free. At Fig. 3, this embodiment is shown with the flap 5 folded upwards.
The flap 5 comprises two parallel vertical incisions 6, one of which is (from the surfer's view) located on the left hand side and the other on the right hand side.
Surfer first pulls the sleeve 4 on the foot, the flap 5 rolls upwards (see Fig. 3). Then, the cuff 2 with the coupling 3 and the surf leash 1 is fastened around the ankle with a Velcro fastener (not shown). Depending on whether the surfer stands on the surf board with the left or right leg forward, he/she sets the cuff 2 so that the coupling 3 can be closed in the respective left or right incision 6 and then folds the flap 5 downward around the coupling 3 and fix the flap at its bottom side by the Velcro fastener 7 to the sleeve 4. The coupling 3 is so firmly engaged in the incision 6 of the flap 5 that the cuff 2 can not rotate around the surfer's ankle. At Fig. 5, there is a further embodiment, in which the sleeve 4 can be opened on the front side to facilitate its dressing and is closed by a Velcro fastener 7. Of course, any known type of closure can be used, such as a classic zipper, buttons, knobs, and so on. At Fig. 6, there is another embodiment, in which the sleeve 4 is again longer, extending down to the surfer's knee, and pockets 9 for accommodating objects, in particular knives, locator GPS, keys, etc., are provided on the sleeve 4.
For a person skilled in the art it is clear that the function of the device is indifferent to how the sleeve 4 is long and whether it extends under the foot or not. According to the embodiments that are not shown, the sleeve 4 may be in the form of socks or bandage, or the sleeve 4 may be formed by the lower part of the neoprene protective suit of the surfer. Claims

1. A device for stabilizing a cuff (2) on surfer's leg, the cuff (2) being connectabie by a coupling (3) with a surf leash (1), characterized in that the device comprises a sleeve (4) made of chloroprene rubber based material, the sleeve (4) is intended for encircling the surfer's leg at least in the area above the ankle, and, at the cuff (2) fastening area, there is a flap (5) provided on the sleeve (4), while the flap (5) is equipped with at least one vertical incision (6) at one end and the flap (5) is attached to the sleeve (4) at least at this end in a detachable way.
2. The device according to claim 1 characterized in that the flap (5) comprises two parallel vertical incisions (6), one of which is from the surfer's view located on the left hand side and the other on the right hand side of his/her leg.
3. The device according to claim 1 or 2 characterized in that the detachable connection of the flap (5) with the sleeve (4) is formed by a Velcro (7) and/or buttons and/or knobs and/or zippers.
4. The device according to any of claims 1 to 3 characterized in that the sleeve (4) on its lower part at least partially surrounds surfer's foot.
5. The device according to any one of the preceding claims characterized in that the flap (5) is attached to the sleeve (4), at the end located away from the vertical incisions (6), in a non-detachable manner, preferably it is sewn.
6. The device according to any one of the preceding claims characterized in that the sleeve (4) is formed by a lower part of a leg of a protective suit made of chloroprene rubber based material.
7. The device according to any one of the preceding claims characterized in that at least one pocket (9) is provided on the sleeve (4) for storing objects, in particular a knife and/or a GPS locator and/or a key.
