Description

DESCRIPTION
WEARABLE CONTROLLER FOR SURGERY
Technical Field
This invention is related to a wearable surgical control device which allows operator to control the equipments by wearing them on his/her arms and hands.
Prior Art
One of the software's used by dentists is disclosed in US2014215370A1 and US2014002364A1 numbered United States patent applications. In these aforementioned applications, information like selection of teeth, explanation of the operation can be entered into software over a touch screen.
Besides, in another United Stated patent application numbered US2010199203A1, software's and hardware's for control of the dental chair is mentioned. I n spite of this aforementioned system are not in a position which operator can easily access during the operation.
Aim of the Invention
Invention is aimed development of a wearable control device which allows operator to perform the operations like instant situation of the equipment, operational details, progress data record without distancing his/her body and head from the operation zone. Invention is aimed at the same time development of additional keypad wearable by the operator for performing the changes on operational equipments speed, direction and the power it uses.
Besides Invention also aimed development of a control device which allows the transfer of the followed path during the operation, patient specific records and equipments usage statistics to a server or record medium. Components and Figures that explain the Invention
The figures used for better explanation of the wearable control device developed with this invention and their explanations are provided below.
Figure 1- Schematic view of the wearable control device which is the subject of invention, located on the hand of the operator.
Figure 2- Schematic view that shows the positioning on the palm of RFID reader which allows the wearable control device to recognize the equipment on the operators hand and way of holding of the RFID label mounted equipment.
Components of the invention are numbered one by one and their correspondences are provided below.
1. Control Device
2. Screen
3. Keyboard
4. Adjustment Wheel
5. RFID label
6. RFID reader
Detailed Explanation of the Invention
Control Device (1) which is the subject of the invention contains in its basic form a touch screen (2), a keyboard (3) mountable on the index finger and a RFID label (5) placed upon the equipment that will be used during surgical procedure and a RFID reader (2) placed on the palm, glove or wristband of the operator (In the figures only a RFID reader (6) placed on the palm of the operator is seen). Keyboard (3) will be allowed to be used by the operator easily by steering with thumb. Besides, adjustment wheel (4) added over the keyboard (3) will be used for altering of parameters like the engine speed, applied current strength or changing the menus appeared the screen (2). Screen (2) that show the operators operation steps during the surgical procedure and patient specific information also follow the stage reached in the operation at that moment by recognizing the equipment used by the operator at that moment and can change the displaying images. This recognition process will be accomplished by the RFID reader (6) which operator wears in both of his/her gloves on his/her hands and the RFID label (5) placed upon the equipment.
RFIF labels (5) are passive identifier that does not require batteries. Equipment in the operators hand at that moment can be followed by placing the aforementioned RFID labels (5) whose one side is with an adhesive surface on the scalpel, chisel and drills that are used in dentistry and mounting of these unique codes to the control device (1) via RFID reader (6). During these aforementioned trackings, how long that the operators hold equipment in his hand can be followed and all operation can be recorded like black boxes in the planes.
Some equipment that are used during the surgical operations are cutters, perforators, burner or pumps that pump serum and vacuum pumps that require speed, power, direction adjustments. In order to perform the adjustments of aforementioned equipments, if required match will be performed via control device (1), when the operator take the relevant equipment in his/her hands and recognized by the control device (1) via the RFID label (5) and relevant adjustment menu will appear in the screen (2). Operator can make adjustment by mobilizing a pointer or an image on the adjustment menu on the screen (2) with keyboard (3) or adjustment wheel (4).
Thus, Invention allows that both the control device (1) that tracks the equipments can give a feedback about operational steps and also operator singlehandedly change the adjustments of the equipments during the operation. Besides, for example, during operation concerning teeth, a teeth specific record for the relevant teeth can be prepared by first dentist mark the teeth he/she worked on and then perform the operations like decayed teeth cleaning, scaling, filler placing, implant placing with equipment he/she uses. Measurement of the depth of the hole opened with a teeth drill is performed with another equipment and this depth will be shown on the screen(2) at the same time and again recorded for the relevant teeth will give the opportunity to review the operation process later. Surgical operations can be performed on whole human and animal bodies. Procedure steps in these aforementioned operations are known and the equipment that will be used in these operations is made standby. Just as feedback can be give and tracking can be made about the every equipments order of usage and it is also possible to record the default adjustments adjusted before the operation to reduce the adjustment requirements during the operation to the control device (1). All of these processes can be performed by touching the screen (2) or using the adjustment keyboard (3) or steering the adjustment wheel (4).
Control device (1) can take a whole record of a patient as a result of marking of the estimated operated area of the colon over the colon model on the screen (2) just like the operator does in the aforementioned teeth operation and carrying out of the operation with the equipments.
Operations made with camera and coloring agent like laparoscopic operations, by playing the images on screen (2) of the control device (1), operator can be enabled to watch the images without raising his/her hand from the area of operation.
Connection between the control device (1) and components like keyboard (3), RFID reader (6) and equipments can be cables or wireless (RF, bluetooth, wifi, infrared).
Shaking of the operators hand because of pressure operator exerted over the equipment, responses given by the patient during operation, local stiffness in the operational area or changes of stiffness in the operational area is possible. It is possible that vibrations can alter according to that whether the equipment is motorized, motor less or externally actuated. Despite all these variations, operator will have an additional data which allows operator to assess the operation after the procedure by recording the vibrations of all the equipments and hand vibrations by the RIFD reader (6) in the palm, hand or arm of the operator.
