Description

IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE WITH DEVICE-SPECIFIC DIGITAL VIDEO BROADCASTING REMOTE SETTING SYSTEM
The present invention relates to an image display device with a device-specific digital video broadcasting informational data and settings data transfer system.
Digital and interactive TV systems provide a comprehensive amount of TV channels and programs leading to the general outcome that conventional methods for configuring the operation of the image display device from among a plurality of setting parameters may become inefficient to the extent that it is unperformable in a time-saving manner.
Device-specific usage parameters in an image display device can generally be set during the initial set-up and left at the selected setting for a prolonged period of time. An image display device can be used for many different purposes including educational ones in schools and installable in other setups including offices, meeting rooms, hotels and so on where a plurality of users may interact with the device.
To this end, it is not always possible for a temporary user, for instance in a hotel room, to set a certain setting by way of selecting a respective menu in the interface environment, which is not easily directly accessible in all cases. In any cases, a temporary guest in a hotel is less likely to dive into the interface menu and look for the exact location of the respective setting. In many cases this is not preferred and the user tries to content himself with what is available to him. It is additionally not possible to establish a simple communication interface which does not require connection of the image display device to a local area network, which would be more complex to setup for a large number of devices in a multiple TV setup.
Accordingly, configuration of a multiplicity of image display devices to receive device-specific settings and additional informational data through DVB-T or DVB-C digital multiplex television services may offer a less troublesome viewing experience without having to manually set any setting or attempt to obtain device-specific information. The present invention therefore solves the technical problem of automatically enabling a temporary user to set certain settings of an image display device such that he will not need to manually fiddle with the setting of the image display device.
Among others, one of the prior art disclosures in the technical field of the present invention can be referred to as EP2434755, which discloses an addressing system for multiplex digital television services in hotel, hospital and similar bedrooms and an anti-tampering system applied to said addressing system. The addressing system is used for addressing of PPV/VOD services in the headends of hotels and hospitals, which is compatible with standard commercially available television sets installed in rooms and blocked following pretuning. The anti-intrusion system for the addressing system prevents fraudulent users from receiving services by replacing the television sets of the facility with other unblocked standard television sets. In order that both systems can be used with standard television sets without manipulations or additional devices, use is made of DVBT-COFM or DVBC-QAM modulation with a manipulation of the international standard tables MPEG2, H264 and/or DVB, following initial pretuning of the television sets, and optionally a tamperproof TV socket or DVB/CSA encoding with generic password.
The image display device according to the present invention on the other hand provides a system and method by which image display device settings and informational data can be sent to specific image display devices in a setup of a plurality of DVB-T/DVB-C televisions/receivers environment as provided by the characterizing features defined in Claim 1.
Primary object of the present invention is to provide a system and method by which settings and informational data are sent to specific DVB-T/DVB-C televisions/receivers without establishing network connection through a network interface card.
The present invention proposes an image display device forming part of a setup of a plurality of DVB-T/DVB-C devices and receiving a transport stream specified under ISO/IEC 13818-1 or ITU-T Rec. H.222.0 standards. An electronic control unit of the image display device determines the device-specific PID number and retrieves the information as to the device-specific interface menu language setting.
Accompanying drawings are given solely for the purpose of exemplifying a system and method by which an image display device is operable, whose advantages over prior art were outlined above and will be explained in brief hereinafter.
The drawings are not meant to delimit the scope of protection as identified in the claims nor should they be referred to alone in an effort to interpret the scope identified in said claims without recourse to the technical disclosure in the description of the present invention.
Fig. 1 demonstrates a general schematic diagram of the data transmission scheme according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 demonstrates an exemplary informational data listing according to the present invention.
The present invention proposes a system for carrying informational data and settings information for DVB-T or DVB-C digital multiplex television services for image display devices in television in a setup of a plurality of DVB-T/DVB-C televisions/receivers using international standard tables (ISO/IEC standard 13818-1 or ITU-T Rec. H.222.0).
The present invention proposes an image display device enabling a user to automatically obtain certain settings of the device such as the interface menu language in a user-specific manner as his preferred language so that the user does not need to manually spend a significant amount of time in an effort to individually locate and configure a respective setting. The system and method of the invention ensures that a specific image display device receives settings and informational data sent through DVB-T or DVB-C digital multiplex television in a setup of a plurality of DVB-T/DVB-C televisions/receivers.
An image display device can be initially configured to have a certain menu language such as for instance Spanish in a hotel room in Spain. However, a hotel guest watching the image display device being a foreign visitor, may prefer to interact with the image display device in his native language in a more convenient manner. A typical setting of image display device such as the interface language can be changed any time by selecting a respective menu in the interface environment. This would, however, prove to be relatively problematic for a temporary guest in a hotel room or in any other setup where a temporary user is in question, because the respective menu is not always easily accessible and in order for locating the language setting in the menu, one should be able to understand the actual menu language or should ask for assistance.
An MPEG transport stream is a standard container format for transmission and storage of audio, video, and Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) data, used in broadcast systems such as DVB. According to the present invention, device-specific information as regards to different image display devices is sent in the form of metadata as part of an MPEG transport stream. Device-specific information is carried in the form of a table structure, i.e. a look-up table. An electronic control unit of the image display device retrieves, based on a certain number assigned to the specific image display device, the specific PID (Packet Identifier) number in relation with said image display device and any files associated with said PID number is downloaded to the specific image display device. Such files may for instance contain text (txt), image (jpeg) or audio files (mp3). It is to be noted that the electronic control unit may also retrieve xml files from the transport stream by way of identifying the device specific PID number provided in the look-up table. These files may serve for reordering TV channels in accordance with a certain user, that is, channels broadcasting in a certain language can be grouped together.
According to the present invention, the electronic control unit of an image display device, based on the specific PID number, retrieves the language of choice of a given user in a setup of a plurality of DVB-T/DVB-C televisions/receivers. It is therefore to be noted that the language setting of the specific image display device can be repeatedly and automatically changed for each user without requiring use of a network connection. This is advantageous in that the specific image display device retrieves the interface language information through the transport stream and the electronic control unit automatically changes the interface menu language setting.
An additional advantage lies in that user-specific time-dependant functions such as remote wake-up of the image display device at a certain time can be performed and information as to the user-specific time-dependant function can be retrieved in the same manner. Further advantageous aspects of the present invention can be indicated as transfer of user-specific messages on the screen or playing certain audio/video files accompanying a certain welcome message.
In a nutshell, the present invention proposes an image display device forming part of a setup of a plurality of DVB-T/DVB-C devices comprising a control unit effecting operation of said image display device, said image display device receiving a transport stream specified under ISO/IEC 13818-1 or ITU-T Rec. H.222.0 standards.
In one embodiment of the present invention, an electronic control unit of the image display device is configured to receive device-specific information in the form of metadata as part of the transport stream in the form of a look-up table and retrieve the specific PID number in relation with said image display device based on a specific number assigned to said image display device from said look-up table.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said electronic control unit is further configured to determine an interface menu language choice based on the PID number and automatically change the image display device interface menu language to a predetermined language whereby users of the specific image display device forming part of the setup of a plurality of DVB-T/DVB-C devices are able to interact with the image display device in a language of preference.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said electronic control unit is configured to automatically download files associated with said PID number to the specific image display device.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said electronic control unit is configured to retrieve an xml file, said xml file fulfilling reordering of TV channels in a certain language in a grouped manner.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said electronic control is configured to automatically wake up the image display device in time-dependant manner, said time information being retrieved from the transport stream by way of identifying the device specific PID number.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said electronic control unit effectuates display of transferred device-specific informational data on the screen of the image display device.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, said electronic control unit effectuates transfer and playing of predetermined audio/video files in a time-dependant manner on the screen of the image display device.
The invention is therefore devised under the recognition that an automatic setting update function by which the display device is operable for instance to dynamically change the menu language settings is advantageously obtainable. According to the invention, the desired device-specific language setting and/or wake-up time information (if any) can be also communicated within the transport stream through a second look-up table in a PID dependant manner.
