Abstract
Payment system for one or several buyers and one or several sellers, wherein each buyer (A1;A2;A3) is caused to transfer a money amount from an account which the buyer holds at a bank (1) to a central server (2). The invention is characterised in that the buyer is caused to log into the said central server and in connection thereto state an account number of the said account. The central server (2) is caused to state a unique code to the buyer (A1;A2;A3). When a purchase is to be performed at a point of sale, the buyer is caused to send information regarding an amount to a server (3) of a seller (B1), together with the said code. The server (3) of the seller (B1) is caused to send a query signal, comprising the said code, to the central server 2 regarding whether or not the amount is available on the buyer's (A1;A2;A3) account, and, if this is the case, the central server (2) is caused to discount the amount from the account of the buyer, and to communicate to the server (3) of the seller that the purchase has been approved. The central server (2), or alternatively the seller's server (3), is caused to store the amount together with the said code. At a certain point in time, or when the buyer has performed purchases up to a certain total amount, the central server is caused to transfer a stored amount associated with the buyer (A1;A2;A3) from the central server (2) to an account (4) belonging to the seller.
Description
Payment system for a buyer and a seller.
The present invention relates to a payment system for a buyer and a seller, and in particular to a method for paying small amounts over the internet.
The payment system can be applied for any type of goods and services. Such goods and services may be subscriptions, fees for downloading an article via the internet, participation in gambling or games, purchase goods over the internet, etc.
Presently, payments over the internet take place using an ac¬ count number, such as the account number of a bank card, credit card, etc. In order to perform a purchase, it is nec- essary to have a card with an account number, and then to go through a more or less cumbersome payment procedure.
At the time of payment, the amount in question is transferred from an account of the user, which is identified by the ac- count number, to an account belonging to the seller. Such a transaction is managed across the world by for instance VISA and MASTERCARD. The cost of the transaction is fixed, and payed for by the seller. This means that small amount trans¬ actions are not profitable for the seller.
In case a transaction takes place using physical money, the payment itself is simple and does not cost anything. Moreo¬ ver, physical money is not tied to any one particular person, why the transaction as such is anonymous.
The present payment system uses an account belonging to the buyer, but which provides a very simple payment method, which
also achieves a lower cost than the above mentioned conven¬ tional way. Furthermore, the present invention provides ano¬ nymity corresponding to payment using physical money. Hence, the present invention relates to a payment system for one or several buyers and one or several sellers, and is characterised in that each buyer A1;A2;A3 is caused to trans¬ fer a money amount from an account which the buyer holds at a bank 1 to a central server 2, in that the buyer is caused to log into the said central server and in connection thereto state an account number of the said account, in that the cen¬ tral server 2 is caused to state a unique code to the buyer A1;A2;A3, in that the buyer, when a purchase is to be per¬ formed at a point of sale, is caused to send information re- garding an amount to a server 3, or the corresponding, of a seller Bl, together with the said code, in that the server 3 of the seller Bl is caused to send a query signal, comprising the said code, to the central server 2 regarding whether or not the amount is available on the buyer's A1;A2;A3 account, and, if this is the case, the central server 2 is caused to discount the amount from the account of the buyer, and to communicate to the server 3 of the seller that the purchase has been approved, in that the central server 2 is caused to store the amount together with the said code, and in that, at a certain point in time, or when the buyer has performed pur¬ chases up to a certain total amount, the central server is caused to transfer a stored amount associated with the buyer A1;A2;A3 from the central server 2 to an account 4 belonging to the seller, alternatively that the server of the seller is caused to store the amount and the said code in connection to a purchase, and in that the server 3 of the seller is caused to send the stored amount for the buyer, together with the code, to the central server 2, whereby the central server is caused to transfer the stored amount associated with the
buyer A1;A2;A3 from the central server 2 to an account 4 be¬ longing to the seller.
In the following, the invention is described in closer detail, partly in connection to an embodiment illustrated in figure 1.
In figure 1, a payment system for a buyer and a seller ac¬ cording to the invention is illustrated.
According to the invention, the buyer A1;A2;A3 is caused to transfer a money amount from an account which the buyer holds at a bank 1 to a central server 2 for handling of payments from buyer to seller.
The seller must connect to the payment system, for instance based upon an agreement. Similarly, the buyer must connect to the payment system. At connection, the seller can be provided with login information to the central server 2. In a first step, the buyer is caused to log into the said central server and in connection thereto state an account number of the said account. In connection thereto, the central server 2 is caused to state a unique code to the buyer A1;A2;A3.
In a second step, when a purchase is to be performed at a point of sale, the buyer is caused to send information re¬ garding a current payment amount to a server 3, or the corre¬ sponding, of a seller Bl, together with the said code. In a third step, the server 3 of the seller Bl is caused to send a query signal, comprising the said code, to the central server 2 regarding whether or not the amount is available on the buyer's A1;A2;A3 account in the central server. If this is the case, the central server 2 is caused to discount the amount from the account of the buyer, and to communicate to
the server 3 of the seller that the purchase has been ap¬ proved. In a fourth step, the central server 2 is caused to store the amount together with the said code. At a certain point in time, or when the buyer has performed purchases up to a certain total amount, the central server is caused to transfer the stored amount associated with the buyer A1;A2;A3 from the central server (2) to an account 4 belonging to the seller. The amount is identified using the said code. Alter¬ natively, the server of the seller is caused to store the amount and the said code, in the fourth step, in connection to a purchase. In connection thereto, the server 3 of the seller is caused to send the stored amount for the buyer, to¬ gether with the code, to the central server 2, whereby the central server is caused to transfer the stored amount asso- ciated with the buyer A1;A2;A3 from the central server 2 to an account 4 belonging to the seller.
Using this method, many small purchase amounts can be added together before a payment takes place. This results in lower transaction costs.
It is preferred that the codes provided by the central server are collected in a list, in the server, over active codes. When the seller contacts the central server in said second step, in which the seller sends information regarding the current purchase amount, together with the said code, it is verified whether the code exists on said list. If the code exists on the list, the purchasing process continues to the said third step. If the code does not exist on the said list, the purchasing process is terminated. After the said fourth step, the code is erased from the list.
This means that the transaction does not leave any trace in the central server.
When the code has been erased, the central server provides a new code to the buyer, under condition that the buyer is still logged into the central server and that money is still left on the account of the buyer in the central server.
A preferable field of use is that the buyer, when a purchase is to be performed, has connected to a web page of the seller, via the internet. Thereby, the products may be marked with a symbol so as to indicate which products can be payed in the above described way.
A non-limiting example is that the buyer enters a web page for a newspaper or a magazine, in which different articles cost money to read. Thereby, the publisher of the newspaper or magazine may have provided the newspaper or magazine with a symbol indicating that payment can be made in the above specified manner, and the cost for reading the article.
Thereby, the user may click the symbol, whereby the said code of the buyer and the said amount are stored in the central server, or alternatively with the publisher.
Hence, the payment system achieves that, in case the buyer has bought two or more goods or services from one and the same seller, the costs from all such purchases are collected in one transaction between the central server and the account of the seller, which transaction is processed.
Another example may be that the buyer has connected to a web page for a gambling or gaming provider, where different gambling or gaming possibilities are marked using a respective symbol and an amount.
According to a preferred embodiment, as the buyer logs into the said central server and states the account number, the buyer also states a password. According to another preferred embodiment, the said code is unique and sequential. The sequentiality lies in that each time a new code is emitted by the central server, it is dif¬ ferent from all active codes in the central server. It is also preferred that the buyer is tied to the same said code during the time passing until a transfer to the account of the seller has been finished.
According to an additional preferred embodiment, the transac¬ tion is erased in the central server after the transfer from the central server to an account belonging to the seller.
It is also preferred that, after the transfer from the cen¬ tral server to an account belonging to the seller, also the said code is caused to be erased.
It is preferred that the buyer is caused to communicate with the central server and the seller' s server, respectively, us¬ ing a computer, a tablet computer or a so-called smartphone .
According to the invention, it is also possible that the seller can transfer an amount to the buyer, such as a return purchase or a gambling win. This can be performed so that the buyer requests a return purchase with the seller, and states its code and amount. As a result, the seller credits the amount by the amount tied to the code is deducted from a made purchase in the central server, or alternatively in the seller's server.
It is apparent that purchases over the internet become sim¬ pler as compared to when each purchase comprises that a full transaction is performed. Another advantage is that the buyer cannot be traced by the seller, and that the seller does not gain access to the ac¬ count information of the buyer.
Above, a number of embodiments have been described. However, the payment system can be modified by for instance the send¬ ing of the code being encrypted.
Therefore, the present invention is not to be considered lim¬ ited to the above described embodiments, but may be varied within the scope of the enclosed claims.
