The following invention, as expressed in the wording of the present specification, refers to a folding bicycle, being of the type and with the structural configuration of conventional, racing, road or mountain bicycles, and that being able to be folded can be transported in a normal motor vehicle and thus allow to enjoy anywhere the characteristics of lightness, rigidity and stability of a racing or road bike or the robustness and safety of a mountain bike. Likewise, when presenting, in its folded position, the advantage of occupying a smaller space, it is facilitated not only its transport, but also its storage in a normal house when it is not used.
In the present specification a folding bicycle is described, which can be road, racing or mountain.
ANTECEDENTES DE LA INVENCIÓN BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
As it is known, conventional racing, road or mountain bicycles, although different from each other, have in common that all of them are required to have characteristics of sturdiness, rigidity, lightness and stability at high speed that are much higher than those required conventional folding bicycles, mainly for urban use, which are required above all to occupy the minimum space possible once folded and that the folding / unfolding process is as simple and fast as possible.
The required performance of racing, road or mountain bikes, sturdiness, rigidity, lightness and stability at high speed are achieved with the use of suitable materials and with a geometric configuration characterized by several factors (dimensions, angles, structural elements, etc.), among which can be highlighted above all the use of wheels of sufficient diameter, a sufficient wheelbase and the use of a type of frame or frame with a specific configuration, commonly known as "diamond box" or "double triangle" whose triangular structure provides an optimal relationship between rigidity and lightness.
In contrast, conventional folding bicycles typically use smaller diameter wheels and a frame or frame often based on a single, thick, split main bar, somewhere in between its length, with a sturdy, heavy hinge. Both characteristics seek, above all, to facilitate the folding / unfolding process and to reduce to a maximum the space occupied once folded. Said characteristics involve reducing rigidity, unless very thick, and therefore heavy, elements are used, as well as reducing stability and safety at high speeds.
On the other hand, we can consider different patent documents related to folding bicycles, and, thus, we can consider the documents ES 2 297 420; ES 2 430 463; ES 1 064 002 and ES 1 078 646, so that document ES 2 297 420 discloses a pivoting folding of the structure relative to the rear wheel with respect to the main frame, as well as a device for collecting the transmission chain.
In document ES 2 430 463 a folding bicycle is described, whose folding is carried out with respect to its rear and previous assembly in the same plane of the frame or in a parallel plane.
In document ES 1 064 002 a folding bicycle is described, which in proximity to the rear end of the main bar has a pair of pinions intermeshed and associated with the seat support bar and the fork of the rear wheel, way that folding occurs by folding both towards the front.
DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA INVENCIÓN Finally, document ES 1 078 646 discloses a folding bicycle, which is characterized by presenting the frame in the form of a half arch and by folding the rear wheel, without being disassembled, under the lower part of said frame in the form of half arch. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In the present specification a folding bicycle (figure 2) is described which, when used, maintains the structural configuration and geometry, demonstrated as optimal, of the conventional racing, road or mountain bicycles (figure 1) unchanged, thus preserving invariable dynamic qualities and essentially sporting character, but that, when not used, allows to reduce the space occupied (Figure 8). The space saving achieved is due only to the folding nature of the frame object of the present patent, not to the use of smaller wheels. The objective of maintaining the dynamic characteristics of the bicycle, forces to keep the size of the wheels of conventional bicycles unchanged. To enable the frame to be folded, three soldered joints of the bars or tubes constituting the frame of the conventional bicycle are replaced, usually by welding, by three joints whose axis of rotation is perpendicular to the plane of the bicycle, two of said joints being conventional and the third removable.
All folding / unfolding movements always occur in the same plane of the bicycle frame, being achieved by folding the bicycle that the maximum length of its structure, which corresponds approximately to the distance between the axes of the front and rear wheels, decreases in a length close to the length of the upper bar (figures 2 and 8).
La bicicleta objeto de la invención, al igual que las convencionales, presenta un cuadro con una barra anterior de montaje de la horquilla de la rueda anterior y manillar, una barra posterior de acoplamiento del sillín y solidaria con la estructura de unión con el eje de la rueda posterior, quedando ambas unidas por una barra superior y una barra inferior, de forma que, tal como se representa en la figura 2: la barra superior del cuadro, solidaria con la barra anterior, se fija a la barra posterior de acoplamiento del sillín por unos medios de unión que constituyen una articulación desmontable, y; The bicycle object of the invention, like the conventional ones, has a frame with an anterior bar for mounting the fork of the front wheel and handlebar, a rear bar for coupling the saddle and integral with the connecting structure with the axle of the saddle. the rear wheel, both of which are joined by an upper bar and a lower bar, so that, as shown in figure 2: the upper bar of the frame, integral with the front bar, is fixed to the rear bar of the saddle by means of union that constitute a removable articulation, and;
la barra inferior del cuadro se fija a la barra anterior de montaje de la horquilla de la rueda anterior y manillar y a la barra posterior de acoplamiento del sillín por unos medios de unión articulada.  the lower bar of the frame is fixed to the front mounting bar of the fork of the front wheel and handlebar and to the rear bar for coupling the saddle by articulated joining means.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the removable joining means of the upper bar of the frame to the saddle coupling bar are defined by a first element integral with the saddle coupling bar provided with a through hole and arranged in proximity to the saddle. its upper part and a second element, of top of the upper bar of the frame, in the form of "U", with its wings provided with respective holes, and between whose wings the first element fits and fixes by means of a threaded pin arranged in their matching holes.
BREVE DESCRIPCIÓN DE LOS DISEÑOS Likewise, the hinged connection of the lower bar of the frame to the front mounting bar of the fork of the front wheel and handlebar is under the joint fixing of the upper bar of the frame to said front bar and the articulated joint of the lower bar to The rear coupling bar of the saddle is made by another articulated joint similar to the first one. To complement the description that will be made next, and in order to help a better understanding of the characteristics of the invention, this descriptive report is accompanied by a set of plans, in whose figures an illustrative and non-limiting way , the most characteristic details of the invention are represented.
In view of the aforementioned figures and according to the numbering adopted we can see how, from a conventional bicycle, road, racing or mountain, a new frame is formed that has as an essential feature that can be folded from of said conventional configuration. To identify the bars, usually tubular, that comprise it, we denominate them in the following way:
> barra superior 2, que une la barra anterior 3 o de dirección, asociada al manillar 16, y la parte superior de la barra del sillín 4; > upper bar 2, which joins the previous bar 3 or address, associated with the handlebar 16, and the upper part of the saddle bar 4;
> barra anterior 3 o de dirección, asociada al manillar 16 y a la horquilla de la rueda delantera 14;  > front bar 3 or steering, associated with the handlebar 16 and the fork of the front wheel 14;
> barra posterior 4 o del sillín, asociada al sillín 13, que normalmente es regulable en altura, y a la estructura de soporte de la rueda trasera, y;  > rear bar 4 or of the saddle, associated with saddle 13, which is normally adjustable in height, and with the supporting structure of the rear wheel, and;
> lower bar 5, which joins the front 3 or steering bar and the lower part of the rear bar 4 or the saddle.
In this way, the structure of the folding bicycle 1 is embodied so that the upper bar 2 is joined, by welding or the like, to the steering rod 3 and will be joined to the rear bar 4 of the saddle through means of removable union 6, while said bar 4 of the saddle is fixed to the axis of the pedals and the support structure of the rear wheel, as in a conventional bicycle. The removable connecting means 6 of the upper bar 2 with the seat bar 4 can be embodied by a first element 8 projecting radially of the seat bar 4 and provided with a through hole 9 and a second element 10 of "U" shaped end, with holes 11 on its wings, of the end of the upper bar 2, so that when the first element 8 protrudes between the wings of the second element 10 and the holes 11 coincide with the hole 9, of both, it will suffice to introduce a threaded pin 12 to materialize its fixation.
On the other hand, the lower bar 5 will be joined, through respective articulations 15, to the steering rod 3 and to the bar of the saddle 4, through small lugs 7 integral with it. By materializing the joint through the aforementioned small lugs 7, the folding of the bicycle is facilitated.
In this way, the essential characteristic of the new folding bicycle 1 with respect to a conventional bicycle is that three integral joints, usually made by welding, of the bars or tubes forming the frame, are replaced by three joints.
The axis of rotation of these joints is perpendicular to the plane that makes up the frame, so that all folding / unfolding movements always occur in the same plane of the frame of the bicycle, making its length decrease in its folding.
When the bicycle is deployed, as it is used, the frame constitutes a triangular and isostatic structure in the plane, optimizing the use of the resistant characteristics of the elements of the frame, as happens in a conventional bicycle.
The aforementioned triangular and isostatic structure of the frame and the fact that the joints are of simple rotation with the axis always perpendicular to the plane of the frame, guarantees an adequate resistance against any effort (traction, compression, shear, bending, torsion) in any direction and point of the box.
These joints can be of the same type as those commonly used in many rear suspension systems of mountain bikes, which guarantees its robustness and an affordable cost in industrial manufacturing.
Thus, the threaded pin 12 will be similar to the one used in many bicycles, with a threaded end, to screw a nut in it, and with a quick closing system at the other end, but, logically, with the appropriate length and diameter dimensions .
The removable connection assembly 6 of the upper bar 2 with the seat bar 4, when assembled, constitutes, in principle, a joint of free rotation as the other two joints 15, so that the rigid, triangulated and isostatic structure is completed. in the plane already described. However, in order to facilitate the assembly and disassembly of this joint, by inserting or removing the pin 12, it is convenient that there be a certain dimensional tolerance (a few tenths of a millimeter) both between the diameters of said pin and of the holes 9 and 11 passing through, as well as between the element 10 of the rear end of the upper bar 2 and the element 8 welded to the bar 4 of the saddle.
To prevent these tolerances from reaching inadmissible gaps, the thickness of the lugs of the element 10, which are made of sheet metal or similar material, is dimensioned so that they have a certain flexibility. In this way, the small space between said lugs and the sides of the element 8 welded to the seat tube, is it reduces as the threaded pin with quick closing system is tightened, until the assembly is solidly joined, without gaps and minimizing the risk of loosening the threaded nut on the end of the pin. As for the folding process of the bicycle, this begins with the disassembly of the saddle 13 and the front wheel 14, as is done in a conventional manner, so that once the saddle 13 and the front wheel 14 have been disassembled, it will proceed to disassemble the threaded pin 12 that joins the upper bar 2 with the bar of the saddle 4 and then proceed to be folding, properly said, the structure of the bicycle, as shown in figure 8 of the designs, in which the front wheel, already disassembled, is represented separately.
Thus, the folding process of the frame is carried out in the plane of the bicycle, allowing to significantly reduce the length of the bicycle, while in the unfolding operation it will act in a reverse way to that described.
To facilitate the folding of the bicycle, a textile cord can be incorporated, so that one of its ends would be joined to the previous bar 3 and the other end would be topped by a small spherical piece. Said cord would pass through the hole of a ring welded to the rear bar 4 at a point near the joint element 8 and below it. The diameter of the orifice of said ring would be smaller than that of the spherical part of the bead of the bead so that said spherical piece could not pass through the ring.
The length of the cord would be such that it was almost fully extended with the bicycle deployed. In this way, disassembling the pin 12 to fold the bicycle would prevent a possible unwanted removal of the front part of the bicycle (since it would be prevented by the fact that the spherical part can not pass through the ring) and, at the Once, with the bicycle already folded, it would be easier to keep it folded by knotting, or holding by means of some other system, the remaining excess of the cord to the rear bar 4.
To keep the front part of the folded bicycle better, a textile belt, equipped with "sailboat" type elements or similar, could be incorporated to keep the front fork and the seat tube 4 close together. These solutions are very light weight, do not damage the surface of the elements that link, allow a gradable approximation of the elements that are linked and use very economic and common elements in the market, but could be any other. Finally, and in order to avoid loose parts after the folding process, the seatpost can be inserted inside the upper bar 2 and fastened with the same threaded pin 12 joining the upper bar 2 with the seat bar 4 when the bicycle is unfolded.
To do this, the inside diameters of the upper bar 2 and the bar of the saddle 4 must be the same (which is common in many bicycles), in the central part of the element attached to the rear end of the upper bar 2 must be made a hole of diameter equal to said inner diameter of the upper bar 2 and in the seat post 13 a transverse hole is to be made that allows the insertion of the removable threaded pin 12. Thus, said threaded pin 12 is also used to hold the seatpost 13.
The different elements (front wheel and folded assembly of the rest of the bicycle) can be stored separately, which allows them to be arranged in the most appropriate way in the available space (luggage compartment of the vehicle, etc.), or to store them together in a bag textile of suitable design, bag that is not the object of this patent.
