Description

AN EFFERVESCENT TABLET USED AS DISINFECTANT AND THE
PRODUCTION METHOD THEREOF
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to an effervescent tablet used as disinfectant, which can be dissolved quickly when dropped into waters used at places such as drinking water, swimming pools and healthcare sector where hygiene is required.
Background of the Invention
Calcium hypochlorite tablets are widely used in the disinfection of waters used in areas requiring hygiene. However, the current calcium hypochlorite tablets do not have effervescent property, therefore they dissolve in water slowly and long time is required for it to show necessary disinfection effect. When these tablets are dropped into water for disinfection process, their dissolution may take days. For an effective disinfection, this type of disinfections needs to dissolve in a very short time. As a result of the reaction between the water and additives during dissolution of these tablets, carbon dioxide occurs and the carbon dioxide enables homogenous chlorine dispersion.
The United States patent document no. US6426111, an application in the state of the art, discloses a composition of organic acids and carbonate salts suitable for providing effervescence when dissolved in water. In the production of the said composition, citric acid is melted then mixed with powdered carbonate/bicarbonate and then the product was converted into powder form. The viscous combination is then combined with hypochlorite to form stable forms suitable for use in disinfecting applications.
The United States patent application no. US3793211, another application in the state of the art, discloses a stable cleansing composition, for example, which comprises certain proportions of sodium perborate monohydrate, lithium hypochlorite, and phosphate salts.
Effervescent sodium dichloroisocyanurate and trichloroisocyanurate tablets used in this kind of disinfection are also commercially available. One of the common features of effervescent tablets is that they comprise alkali metal carbonates, alkali metal hydrogen carbonates and aliphatic carboxylic acids. For the preparation of this kind of effervescent disinfection tablets, United States patent documents no. US6099861, US5817337, US5741520, US5114647 and US4536389 can be shown as referring the inventions in the art.
However, the said effervescent calcium hypochlorite tablets are very sensitive against moisture and temperature. Moreover, as it will be used in drinking water, the pH value must be in the range of 6,5-7,5 and it must be easily dissolved and activate disinfection between the temperatures 5-30°C. The tablets used today cannot provide these features.
Summary of the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide an effervescent tablet used as disinfectant, consisting of calcium hypochlorite and the production method thereof.
Another objective of the invention is to provide an effervescent used as disinfectant, whose shelf life is increased by means of the stabilizer added in the composition, and a production method thereof.
Another objective of the invention is to provide an effervescent used as disinfectant, which does not include any hazardous substances on human health, and a production method thereof.
Detailed Description of the Invention The production method of an effervescent used as disinfection developed to fulfill the objective of the present invention is illustrated in Figure 1 and the flowchart of the method is given as appendix.
The production method of an effervescent tablet used as disinfectant (10) developed to fulfill the objective of the present invention comprises the steps of; mixing calcium hypochlorite and stabilizer (11),
adding salt to the mixture (12),
adding aliphatic polycarboxylic acid to the mixture (13),
adding base to the mixture (14),
- mixing all the substances (15),
adding lubricant to the mixture (16)
stirring the mixture for the last time (17),
pressing (18).
In the inventive effervescent tablet production method (10), firstly, calcium hypochlorite and stabilizer are mixed (11). As stabilizer, alkali metal carbonates, alkaline-earth metal carbonates, alkali metal hydroxides, alkaline-earth metal hydroxides or different mixtures of these are used. While calcium hypochlorite is used for the purpose of disinfection, the stabilizer increases the shelf life of the end product by preventing it from holding moisture and degradation. Afterwards, salt is added to the mixture (12). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, as salt, sodium sulphate is used in addition to sodium chloride in order to protect the end product from moisture.
The process of adding salt (12) is followed by the process of aliphatic polycarboxylic acid addition (13). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, at least one of the oxalic acid, citric acid, adipic acid and tartaric acid is used as aliphatic polycarboxylic acid. After acid addition (13), base is added to the mixture (14) such that the pH value of the solution, which will form after the effervescent tablet, as the end product, dissolves in water, will be between 6.5 and 7.5. Bases used for this purpose include alkali metal and/or alkali-earth metal carbonates. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, metal bicarbonate is used as the base.
By mixing all the compounds (16), aliphatic polycarboxylic acid and alkali metal bicarbonate react in aqueous media and effervescent feature is provided. To the mixture which is homogenized by being mixed, lubricant is added (17) lastly and the mixture is stirred again from half an hour to 1 hour (18). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, sodium benzoate is used as the lubricant. Sodium benzoate also increases the shelf life of the product and delays the decay time. Lastly, the prepared mixture is brought into tablet form in dry air conditioned environment by adjusting the proper size, pressure and punching speed. The conditions here can be adjusted according to the user's will.
The effervescent tablet prepared with the said method comprises 1-3% calcium hypochlorite, 1-3% stabilizer, 55-70% sodium chloride, 1-2% sodium sulfate, 10- 20% aliphatic polycarboxylic acid, 12-20% alkali metal bicarbonate and 1-2% sodium benzoate by mass.
By the production method for the inventive effervescent tablet used as disinfectant (10), it becomes possible to produce an effervescent which doesn't include any hazardous substances on human health, enables a quick disinfection by being dissolved fast when dropped into water by its effervescent feature and whose shelf life is increased according to the present technique. With dropping the obtained effervescent tablet in water, chlorine occurs quickly and carbon dioxide comes out. The occurred carbon dioxide helps the chlorine dispersion into the water homogenously and chlorine shows disinfection effect quickly in the water. Within the framework of these basic concepts, it is possible to develop various embodiments of the inventive production method for an effervescent tablet used as disinfectant (10). The invention cannot be limited to the examples described herein and it is essentially as defined in the claims.
